Ok, so everybody knows what the pelican is and alot of people seem to want to pilot it.

Here's my idea... include the Pelican, but scale it down... the reason it was so big in Halo 1 and 2 was so it could transport a hog or tank... in halo MP, that would be a sick option, but considering the mack number of players is probably going to be 16 or 32, it'd be pretty ridiculous

so why not scale down the pelican or make a new, smaller version. It would have a pilot seat, two gunner positions on each side and a smaller transport bay that can hold either Spartans ( 2-4 players) or a warthog/tank for MP, rather then the option of carrying both at the same time as happens in the game. That way its defendable, but also can be destructible ( not that destrutible, considering how slow it is, but you could lock on and destroy either the two turrets, the cockpit with the pilot or lock onto a tank/warthog attached to it, and there isn't excessive take all your troops and a tank and drop in on the other team all the time.

The way a tank or warthog could latch on is that the tranport bay would have to be empty (a driver could be in the hog as well as the gunner or in the tank and players could sit on the side, just like the good old days. the tank or hog could also be empty as well) and a hook would come out of the bay to attach to the vehicle. the pilot of the pelican would pick up the hog or tank by flying over it and the pilot is in complete control of when the hog or tank gets dropped.

I also think the Pelican makes alot more sense then the "transport hog" that alot of people have been talking about. Aerial insertion is much more effective, especially in the guerilla warfare style of Halo 3.

Yeah this exactly what we need. A flying tank. If you can transport vehicles, they should be inoperable. But I think the normal Pelican is fine. To make a newer, smaller version, just for the sake of it not being cheap, is a bad idea. The Pelican is a huge target and can be easily taken down with a tank, rockets, or turrets. But, if Bungie finds a good reson to put a smaller one in the game, thats fine with me.

I wanted to see the Halo 2 Pelicans (the ones with legs) land or take off. It would look subtle but cool and more real. I was let down that they didn't in Halo 2.

If you have the CE version for the PC alot of people have pelican mods. Those are some of the coolest things ever made. I love geting in to one and then flying around droping guys off at a base let them get the flag (or anyothere objective) and then calling them for evac. It rocks. Pelicans are good for prganized tactics because wenever I drop a group of people off (or in rare instances other people drop me off) they seem to always stick together. I have no idea why but when I pick them up for evac there always a a group (unless they we pumped full of lead.

The only problem with the pelican is that It is REALLY hard to fly. It took me a week to perfect it, so we should only trust experianced pilots online (unless bungie makes them easy to fly which I hope they don't because I'm the best peli flyer around)

And think about it...why would the unsc make a smaller pelican when there original can hold cargo and troops at the same time. They would be good for steath operations so they might be a good adition to the game but they wouldn't have the armor or the speed to survie a huge attack or battlefeild.

The Pelican would be the most unfair thing in the game, stripped down or not. You would have to make it vulnerable to all weapons to balance its huge firepower advantage and ability to carry people. Either that or make its weapon a nerf gun.

Either way, nobody would want to get in one. If it gets put in, everyone will yell at Bungie and say that they made the game for kids.

The Pelican sounds just as vulnerable as say, the warhog. Rockets can mess anyone up inside the pelican, and you can use snipers to take out passangers, turret operators, etc.

A full size pelican would be fine for an extremely huge MP map and some campaign missions, but otherwise, a scaled down one be better for incorporating into smaller levels. Just take a look at levels like zanibar and coagulation... a full size pelican is too big... there wouldn't be much room for manuvering, but a smaller, more agile one could certinaly work. I especially love the idea of using a smaller one to transport troops over the wall in zanzibar.

I also think each jet engine should be lock-on with rockets, and that it could fly with only one operable (like the banshee). However, if you knock out one jet while the pelican is transporting troops or a tank or hog, the pelican has to release them automatically, because one jet wouldn't be powerful enough to support the extra weight.

I always thought it would be awesome to shoot the transport bay of the pelican with a tank shell.... one hell of an easy way to take our 5-6 guys.

Adding three new flying vehicles to halo 3 would do the game justice... I'm thinkg the pelican and phantom, each with only two turrets, but both fortified greatly.

The third vehicle would be a smaller human equivlanet to the bashee... carries only 2-3 people, is fast, strafes extremely well, and has one-two turrrets.

probably have a similar design to the pelican, with two wings mounted of the top of hull and jets at the end each wing. The rest of it would look like a tomahwak helicopter... very sleek and black. It'd be pretty sweet if a boost was included. It wouldso that the jets are pointed down when you're moving around in most of the levels, but then when you activate the boost, they charge up, releasing more energy and point forwards. This boost system could work for both the pelican and the "skyhog"

What if we could have marine robots in MP, like helljumpers, that we can drop off in enemy territory to fight. The parachute effects could be pretty sweet.

the pelican opens up loads of new multiplayer senarios, as well as campaign ideas (although it only sort of makes sense that the Master Chief would ever pilot one as there are marines specifically trained to fly them :P)
for example, in multiplayer, there could be an assault level where u have to infullrate an enemy base on a pier or island. one player could fly the pelican and drop his team-mates off on the island, sortof like a tactical drop. Of course, the pelican would have to be vunerable to rockets launchers, so it would be up to the pilot's flying skills to keep his crew out of danger.
if the pelican was added to halo 3, the machinegun on the nose of the pelican should definatly me usable by the pilot to lay down fire to clear to clear an LZ. the rear turret should also be usable, although probably be removed for multiplayer so as not to overbalance the pelican's power.
a campaign level which would be very cool, would be a kind of aerial car chase where the chief has to use the rear turret to take down banshees on the pelican's tail.
