Ok, so for this prediction, we let’s do a little proofing, like from our good ol’ Geometry days.

Sin = the Flood; Death = the Grave = Gravemind; Master Chief = Jesus (a type of Christ)

Origins of the Flood and Gravemind

James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Assuming that the above is true, we can see some motivations behind the creation of the Flood. Sometimes we tend to look at the forerunner as a group of godlike beings, adding to the mystery of their demise. But look at the words of Gravemind itself: “I? I am a monument to all your sins.” There are many speculations as to why the Flood was created. Some have taken the humanitarian route and claimed that the forerunner, after reaching the limit of technological advancement, decided to quest for immortality and better their bodies. This has evidence in the fact that the flood cells left in Sgt. Johnson’s body actually give him regenerating abilities. The potency of the flood, and the danger they pose could very well be bred from this lust after immortality. Sadly, they seemed to have pushed past the limit and doomed themselves because of it.

The Outcome

Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

This verse shows us that through Jesus man has been freed from the law of sin and death. Assuming our constants above, that shows that Master Chief will free us from the Gravemind and the Flood altogether.

1 Corinthians 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, F60 where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

This passage is ripe with predictions and foreshadowing of the events of Halo 3. The connections are obvious; Gravemind will be defeated by Master Chief. There is also the support of the origin of the Flood due to the attempt at immortality by the Forerunner. But there are a few other nuggets of coolness in this passage as well. Notice “The sting of death is sin”. This shows that though Gravemind is powerful, his real strength is in the Flood (sin). This helps to build the credibility of this connection of the Bible to the game. However, even more interesting is the phrase, “and the strength of sin is the law.” That’s fascinating because it shows the connection of the Flood to the Covenant. As many know, the word “covenant” is synonymous with the word “law” in the Bible. We know that for some reason, the Covenant let loose the Flood in Halo 1. It’s almost assumed that the Covenant was also responsible for releasing the Flood in Halo 2. Therefore, without the Covenant (Law) the Flood (Sin) had no strength.

The Death of Master Chief

Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

I think that if Master Chief is Jesus, then this verse gives away the ending. A true figure of Christ would sacrifice himself for the salvation of others. I personally think that he will defeat the flood and establish what many theologians call the New Covenant. You see, the Old Covenant was the Law and rules that governed your spirit. This was abolished with death and resurrection of Jesus.

In Halo terms, I think this can be taken very literally. Given the current state of the Covenant, and where the game is heading, I think that the Prophet of Truth will be defeated and exposed for the hypocrite that he is. This will shatter the whole religion of the Covenant, and their reasoning for hating humanity. I think in sacrificing himself, the Chief will present such a bold testimony, that there will be a new Covenant between the remnant of the Covenant and the Humans.

James 1:15 seems to be referencing the fact that the Watchers brought sin to humanity when they fell in love with the "daughters of man" and lusted after them. The Flood would easily represent sin, and they bring death to those who they infect. I'm still going to argue that Gravemind represents the Beast and not Death. I see him as the leader of the Fallen Angels that rise from the Abyss in Revelation 9.

I also think that Halo takes place during Revelation and John coming back to Earth is indicative of the Second Coming. Because of that, I can't see John dying at the end.

While I can definitely see the deceptive side of Gravemind and the obvious indication of the Prophets being the False Prophet, I think that in light of Revelation, the Gravemind is not the Antichrist figure. The Antichrist is someone that is directly opposed to the Christ (as indicated in the name). This person persuades the majority of people on the Earth into following a lie. In my opinion, that sounds a lot more like Truth.

Also, I still think Gravemind is more a picture of Death because it truly is the product of a whole bunch of sin and death. It is the sentient being of pure death, seeking only to consume more and more. I definitely believe that this Death fits in nicely in Revelation, as Christ's Second Coming defeats it eternally, claiming victory and control over it, so that no more must die.

Please keep in mind that my theory is in light of the rest of the NT, not really Revelation, so I respect the research that you've put into it, and the "authority" that you carry (as I really, really like your theories). I think that when all is said and done, we will see a great picture of Revelation, but also of the New Testament and Christ, as well as the O.T. prophecies.

I'm more inclined to see it following one specific book, rather than the entire New Testament.

A kickass game with a deep story.

Don't discredit a theory because you don't have a big enough mind to understand / believe the connections.

Good thoughts.
But wouldn't be a shame if you were wrong?
Imagine how much typing and theorizing would have gone to waste.
Even if you are correct about your hypothesis.
Then what, Bungie confirms you are correct after you beat the game.
Do you flaunt around the forum stating your brilliance?

Its a great game. And I love that the Community is so involved in trying to decrypt the messages and figure out the story. But how often are we right.
It seems to me, That Bungie reads these threads, and takes peices of them. and Avoids others so that they can have such a brilliant story.

However at times, It seems that people can spend too much time hypothesizing about the future. Instead of coming up with ideas of what they would love to see in the future.

Yet again, Good Ideas. You went very in depth on your analysis.
Good work.

I think it should end with hot chicks ruling the world.

Think about it; wouldn't that be the essential ending to an epic trilogy? HAWTNESS...

Halo: Combat Evolved not Halo: Christinanity Involved

I suppose it could, as Bungie tends to take a lot from mythologies, however, I just think it is conincidence. I could find similarties between the Terrorists Attacks and the Bible if I wanted to, it's so long and covers so much it would be hard not to. After that you get into personal interperatation, which stretches things even further.
