It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Whats an Oldschooler and whats a new one?

Id rather not have two classes of bungie members.

Just because someone joined before me doesnt mean ill respect them.

I have been here awhile, but not as long as many others.

Join date, or whatever shouldnt be an issue.

Uh oh.

Just so you know, you've brought this upon yourself.

What does it mean to be old skool? That you made an account back in early 2004? That you were at the original site? That you've been here for a year? To some, you would thought of as an old skooler. So who's apologizing to whom?

Ach! Was ist los?

I believe Johnrap is making a distinction between those who have played the entire Bungie library and know most if not all of them by heart, those who have not but want to do so, and those who can't fit their immature little minds around anything less bite-sized than the Halo series.

In that context, join date means nothing. It's not how long you've been here, it's what you've played and what you've learned.

Johnrap's threads have never made sense to me. I just go with the flow. And the flow is telling me that this thread still doesn't make sense. So I'm sticking with "Discombobulated" at the moment.

Join date should not be an issue with anything. A member that joined two years ago compared to a member that joined two weeks ago means nothing, its what one knows and how one acts that really matters. By creating two different groups of members you lumped a huge amount of people into a stereotype. That is never a good thing.

Agreed. The "generations" aren't that much different, really. It's just that, in the end, only the more involved members tend to stay on, and the idiots end up getting bored and/or blacklisted. I'd rather be respected for who I am than for my join date. I'm sure other people feel the same.

But I don't want to just rarmble off on the "sensible", boring path. It's nice to know that newer members do appreciate that there's more to the community than just them at this point in time, even if the 2001-2003 accounts barely visit anymore.

Hey! I resemble that remark.

I'm also sorry for being an idiot.

You'll have to deal with me. And that is mildly agitating.

I don't have an X-box, and have only briefly played Halo, Halo 2, and Marathon. Anything I've learned, I've learned from the forums here. Does this make me an "ultra-noob?"

Eh maybe cause I'm new school means I know what John is saying. He is saying nothing about join date being old school. He's talking about the people that played Oni and Marathon opposed to the people that played Halo. Right?

no, it makes you one of the coolest people who doesn't own an Xbox.

Also. I have only played Halo. This isn't really my fault. I don't have any of their other games. Can't download Marathon, etc.[/excuses] I think just being a fan of Bungie is what matters. This is Bungie.net, not Halo.net, or OldSkool.net
