"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

True...but were we not all somewhat "idiots" when we first joined?

  • 07.13.2006 5:40 PM PDT

Ach! Was ist los?

I don't think I was, but I was definitely much more cynical and less visible back then.

My rating's dropped to 88% in the three years since I joined.

Your still the holder of infinite wisdom for Marathon...and that makes you more special than most members. Because you have the ability to not be a part of the community, but you are a resource for us...and that is really cool.

Me, I was a little bit of a *cough*jerk*cough*...but I learned quickly.

Nah I've been a forum viewer for a long time and turned member yesterday...I respect people that I never see flame or yell at each other. Most of the old schoolers, my definition is date joined, seem to be better at keeping control then new people. Rockin with the Oldies is the new thing to do.

For example, I don't know when TGP joined, it might've been after Halo 2 for all I know. But the guy knows a lot of the old skool Bungie games and lore. That's old skool, even if it's only been 2-3 years since he was legally old enough to have a Bungie.net account.

*cries*

I'm David, and I'm a post-Halo 2 member.

Well, at least I knew him before he was a moderator...do you remember me TGP?

(10:19:49 PM) Scruss: oh and pezza, i saw what you did to that cat
(10:20:17 PM) Pezza: You were the one with the video camera breathing heavily. Of course you saw.

I've only been around for roughly a year, I still don't feel like I fit in completely. Hopefully I will by Halo 3 release.

Yes, I love all the old skool people.

But the majority of the newcomers are proving themselves to be idiots.

Old Skool is in your heart, not in your join date.

Reading this while listening to Celtic chants almost makes me want to cry.

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

There should be two classes, because then there would finally be something worthwhile to complain about =[

EDIT: Er, well, more worthwhile then what's getting complained about on the forums of late.

I concur. We all start somewhere, even those who know a great deal of lore from Bungie's older games.

If anything, the gap between members who love Bungie for their history of games and those who love Bungie for Halo should be shinking now that it is easier than ever to get the Marathon Trilogy running on current computers.

You're absolutely right. There should not be two classes and there are not. I was just using those terms to illustrate a temporary sentiment that sometimes may occur.

I disagree. There should be two classes - one containing everyone but me. The other containing me. The relationship between these classes can best be compared to that of the one found between an overwhelmingly super-Human Master - me; and a diminutively hunched slave race of Murlocks - everyone else.

Or something... ;)

Judging by the array of Marathon topics I've seen in the Underground recently, I'm inclined to whole-heartedly agree with that statement.

And there is much rejoicing!

I made a mistake or two, and on some occasions did act in a manner that wasn't as good as it could have been, but I wouldn't say the way I acted and they way a large amount of new members act can be compared in the same light. However, if you want to define "idiots" as anyone who makes a mistake, or isn't perfect, or anything like that, then I fell under that definition.

I say oldskool could mean a number of different things. Someone might be described as oldskool because they're well educated in all things Bungie and in Bungie's games. Someone might be oldskool because they've been around for a long time. Someone might be oldskool because they're well-known and a positive member of the community. Or, oldskool could simply be a combination of any of these things.

There are plenty of people on Bungie.net that could be described as "oldskool" in their own way. Someone might say I'm oldskool because I've been a member for a long time. Or, then again, someone might not say I'm oldskool because I'm the type of guy who doesn't post too often and tends to lurk around. The only type of people here that I wouldn't consider oldskool in some way, shape or form would be the ones who truly are idiots and who have nothing better to do than to spam and disrupt the forums. Nobody likes those guys.
