Stop making references between Halo and the bible. There are similarities, but it's not about the bible. Geeze. Freakin' overly-religous Christian gamers. Go play "Jesus' Big Adventure: The legend of the Demonic Darwin and his evil evolution theories", not Halo.

I laughed.

Just thought I'd throw those in there.

Look. Everything can be compared to the bible in some way, and usually is.
Hero=jesus
bad guy=devil.
Easy as that.
If the main character dies, well that seals the deal it was obviously reminiscent of jesus dying for everybody elses sins.

Halo just happens to have more religious terms. Probably more to emphasize the fact that the covenant are highly religious.

those links just reinforced my intense dislike of the arrogance of many Christians. "Halo doesn't offend the ONE TRUE FAITH". when will people learn to tolerate other people' opinions and beliefs and stop telling them they're wrong because they believe differently?

Haha, don't all religions believe that they're right? Don't you? "Arrogance of many Christians"... that's kind of a broad statement. I'm assuming you know more than half of the Christians in the world to make a statement like that.

Just because one crackpot website says something doesn't mean that all Christians are that way. I think I'm detecting prejudice against Christianity, is all. I mean, if you're coming into these threads thinking that Christians are arrogant, then how are you being objective and respecting their beliefs and opinions?

Anywho, I don't want to debate about Christianity. My main thing is that I think everyone should be treated the same way- and I don't think that people on this forum that talk about the Bible are treated with the same fairness that others are shown. But then again, I could be wrong- a LOT of people get flamed on Bungie.net ;) It's hard to keep track of it all.

Look, Frankly all the people who are talking -blam!- about refrences to the bible are completly oblivious to techniques of writing good stories. Adding little tidbits of information from other sources greatly increases fanbase, mostly because it gives the people something to speculate on. The ONE thing that pisses me off about this is its anti-religious base, you are bashing christian faith. You talk about the freedom of relegion yet you are speaking against its best buddy in the bill of right freedom of speech. Because if they think finding byblical refrences is cool, you talk -blam!- to them even tho they enjoying something that may not be its primary intention. Thats my firends is what the real BS is. ALSO for future refrence there is not as many parellells drawn by forum goers from other religions because the other stuff is harder to get ahold of. I say this without byast(sp?) Christianity is the biggest religion, want to prove me wrong I dare you. Take history class sometime. Therefore It's easisest to get ahold of, allwoing more people to search tooth and nail to find biblical refrences, not because christians are the evil imposing religion. (been a long time since medivial ages or the 1800's pal, let that old cliche die.)

* you guys get the point ;) its late

true, but they do clog the forum up. that is a fact that you can't deny

Not really. There may be a few repeat threads, but the solution to those is simple. Just don't post in them, and they will fall into the depths of the forum and won't clog up the first few pages.

If you are tired of all the biblical threads, then create or actively participate in a secular or Greek, Roman, Norse, or any other religions thread. That will help keep a balance.

Sometimes I have gotten tired of seeing 4 1 paragraph topics all saying that the Ark is Noah's ark, but I just move on to other threads and don't let them bother me. I really don;t see what the big deal is.

100% -blam!- en right

It is mighty annoying how people compare MC to Jesus. I have never in the Bible heard anything about Jesus Killing $hit like MC.

There were no Aliens in the BIBLE only A Star Trek Bible has Aliens

Plus there are only so many stories that can be made once and a while one story sounds alot like older stories that you May see in the Bible.

AND if MC is Jesus does that make him Jewish because I never saw a Yamicka on his head.

The concepts of metaphor and allegory are completely lost on you.

Chill out dude. There are biblical allegories in the Halo universe. Get over it. You can make biblical allegories to lots of things. The Matrix, and Lord of the Rings to name a few. And were using these references to try and figure out the mystery behind the Forerunners, the Ark, and the Halos. So just shut up.

Pretty much right on the money. The references to relgion, mythology and what not allow us glimpses into what might happen. By understanding the references one might be able to make more informed speculation as to how things are going to turn out. That is about as religious as it gets for me. No the MC is not JC, Cortana is not the holy Ghost and what ever.

Couldn't agree more. There are some biblical allegories in Halo. End of story. But the amount of tenuous symbolism pulled out of the collective ass of some of these drones is turning my stomach.

That part about it being about guns, blood, death, and war sure sounds a lot like Revelation to me. I agree that Halo is not the Bible but I do see A Lot of similarities between Halo and the Bible. People need to stop being so offended by the fact that something so popular in mainstream culture could have possibly been even slightly influenced by the Bible.

To play or not to play....

Maybe the game was deliberately made with mythological and biblical references. This might be so people can get hints of what is to come by studying the references or simply because the similarity will add to popularity.

A story will sound more believable if you include something familar to the reader/viewer.

I personally see the references as simply a fun way to give hints of what is already in the game and what is to come.

Exactly. Here we have a level-headed and open-minded individual. Look, not all of us our Christian, certainly not myself. We don't think Halo is the Bible. We know it is a biblical allegory, however. We simply wish to make our theories about and get a lively discussion on the topic. If you feel that it is a waste of our time, then I ask you, how does that in any way affect you? Skip over the thread if you are that annoyed by them. Would you say that all theory speculation is the same? Because that's all this equates to--theory speculation, we just happen to be focusing on a specific topic that is interesting to us at the time.

MissionHill, I am Presbyterian, although not strongly religous. I don't go to church, but I believe in God, Heaven, Hell, Jesus, and the afterlife and such. I apologize for sounding insulting, but come on. Halo is a video game.

Just because you believe in that that does not make you a full christian. And Halo is not a bible but has refrences like how LOTR had Sauromon as devil man and Gandalf as god. (Notice in the movie it does not say it but you can portray it). So go away.

To play or not to play....

Yes the person who started this thread has the right to complain about whatever he likes. I agree with that withut any doubt. However as this is an open forum you need to expect that some people will respond rather negatively to your views at the best of times. This issue can be emotional as it involves personal belief as much as it involves anything else. Even if a person says Halo is just a game and not the Bible they still may feel strongly to defend against those who sy the opposite. It is simply human nature and frankly not suprising.

You also need to be aware that the audience may vary. Some people may not have the necessary abilities to communicate their ideas as well as they should. Don't get me wrong I am not putting anybody down I am merely stating a fact of life when you publish anything in a public forum.

I say live and let live. Feel free to express ideas and discussion point until the cows come home. Even if you are dead wrong you should still feel free to discuss anything you like (within reason of course). Just be aware that not everyone will be as open minded as everyone else.
