In halo 1 and 2, the marines seemed very happy and in a good mood. They portrayed a good overall morale in the UNSC and ODST's. But, i think in halo 3, they should have a little bit more depressed attitude. I mean, Earth is basically lost, and the planet is practically dead. Would you be in the mood to say, "YEEHAAW!" in a warthog when it goes off a small jump?

Anyways, i think this lowering of morale would add more meaning to Earth's importance to the human race. You should also constantly recieve radio contacts from other troops, and some should turn out bad (Like the Jenkins Vid from Halo: CE, with the screaming). That kind of stuff adds to the overall helplessness of the situation, when in Halo 2, all you got was the marines talking crap about johnson, an him replying to it over the com.

As well as the occasional, im dropping off more troops, or we are standing by, etc.

Mendicant Bias: Someone set us up the Halo. We get signal.
Gravemind: What?!
Medicant Bias: Main screen turn on.
Gravemind: It's you!
Offensive Bias: How are you, Enemy? All your base are belong to Forerunner. You are on the way to destruction.
Gravemind: What you say?!
Offensive Bias: You have no chance to survive, make your time. Ha ha ha.

Well, in times of war, its always good to keep a good, confident morale, even in a hopeless situation. Soldiers perform better like that, If they're all sad, and hopeless, they wouldn't have the will to fight, and would perform poorly.

True, but what would you feel like if your homeplanet just got destroyed? The books detial the rock bottom morale of the UNSC, but in Halo 2 you really dont see any of the grim side, especially with the short stay on earth. Halo 1 had the dead and injured marines lying around, as well as ship crewman being killed while you walked by helplessly. It was immersive and displayed the hopelessness of the situation, where in halo the only marines you see are alive, except for in Sacred Icon when you see maybe 1 or 2 dead marines.

I love how the crewmen in Halo say "WHAT AM I DOING HERE?!?! IM A COWARDLY FOOOL!!" lol..we need more scared people...even if they're no scared, make them madder..

Stop with the same Mexican cracking jokes over and over again (like in Halo 2) bring back Aussies, and the other bad ass guys..it seems that it's the same 3 Marines every time in Halo 2.

"You must face the truth squarely and without flinching from duty. Our enemies are mortal no longer. Mercy for such as they is a chimera, self-deception is its only ally. Dedicate this weapon, given unto your hand at the behest of the Emperor, to their destruction. Regard its function as your only duty: you live only to bring cleansing fire."

i agree, i always thought it was cheesy when the marines cracked jokes in the heat of battle. if you got shot with hot plasma you wouldnt say "i'm ganna feel that in the morning..."

the elites are cool though cause they live a life of war and can keep their cool.

Everytime I see the word standby and any amount of blue at the same time my eye starts to twitch and I get really angry... Can anyone explain what this symptom may be a sign of?

But seriously I agree with you. In Halo 2 I thought there was too much comedy, and the covenant had just invaded earth. I expected it to be a bit more dark than that, but in Halo 3 with the state that the human race is in, I hope it is a fair bit darker.

Bah... it'll be darker and everything but the whole YEEEHAAAWW when you go off a jump or w/e was just another fun aspect of Halo that they need to keep in there... kinda like the whole thing in Halo CE where the Marines would yell stuff like "Covering FIre!! or "I'm gonna FLank 'em!" , that gave a sort of intangible quality of reality to Halo that just wasn't in Halo 2. ( not bashing Halo 2, I LOVE Halo 2!!)

agreed halo 2 was like a comedy show....halo 3 needs a MUCH grittier feel and storyline....jokes are nice just not while your fighting....and yes having set points where you see a marine panic/cry/injured would be very good....the wounded marines on the POA and the shellshocked marine in 343 Guilty Spark set the mood....i think that they shgould put more of that stuff in the game....

Halo 1> Halo 2
Library<The Maw

I think that explains it.

Back on topic, marines are funny sometimes, but too much and you don't realize that this is a killing game, not a comedy show. I like the YeeHaw, but the screaming from Jenkins helmet freaked the hell out of me. It worked. So did the music by the way.

"Darker" as in the whole mood of things, not the actual lighting..lol

replying to the origanal post, I think this is a good idea, however, remember that the humans were pretty fu.cked in Halo 1 and 2 as well, in Halo CE there were a single ship against a covi armada, and in Halo 2 the covi just found Earth. but since things are really at an end, you be right to say marines and ODSTs might have a completely different mood

There were lots of ships in the First Halo, the Truth and Reconcilliation was damaged, that's why it was in the atmopshere for so long..the others also jumped out of system when the Flood showed up (about halfway through the game)

quit being noobish, the marines are the punchline of the game,"marine, did i give you permission to -blam!-", that cracked me up when the scarab was trampling me

Emo and having your home planet obliterated are 2 different things. I think you would be a little depressed too if you knew that all hope of a normal, safe life was gone. Think of it this way. How would you feel if all the sudden the warning alarms rang at your town, and on the news it said that a nuclear warhead had just been launched and was heading for your area?

Same thing here except on a global scale.
