Well, i think we should post a topic in every forum that is stickied and has this filled into it

Title: NEW MEMBERS! Read Before Posting
Content:

A lesson in posting good threads. This is very important if people expect to be taken seriously in thier posts.

1) Read the Sitckies: The stickies provide very good information on the foum you are posting in. They can link you to specific topics already being discussed, with the possiblity of what you want to talk about being listed there, as well as rules and links that can help you avoid trouble.

2) Checking the forums: Before posting a new topic, check the forums for about 6 pages and search for any topics that may discuss what you want to talk about. This will help you avoid posting repeat topics and flames from angry members.

3) Grammar, Spelling, and Punctuation: This is very important. Proper English really is what puts an impression on the other members of the forum. Good grammar and spelling can make people take you more seriously, and think of you as a much more intelligent individual. An example:

Which of these looks more well thought out?

* SPARTANS! W0o7!! READ PLZ!
i think ther shood be more spartanz in campain they were in teh bookz so why not the gamez? come on bungie! put thems in teh bookz do you guyz think so too if you do post here thankz alot

* More Spartans in Campaign?
I feel that because of Halo 2's major parallel to the books, Halo 3 should go the final step and introduce the other spartans. How fun would it be to fight along side more super soldiers such as yourself?

It could also add alot to the story, by making campaign much more intricate with more diverse missions and individual abilities. If you were Linda, you would have a more steady sniper and a faster trigger finger, where if you were kelly, you would walk faster and have a quicker melee. And then other spartans would have different abilites with John as an all around spartan.

Not only would this add to strategy in campaign, but in Multiplayer as well. you could choose settings as Linda, Sam, Kelly, John, etc and have your character fine tuned to what you like to do most.

Now which one of those above topics was more pleasant to read?

Remember these things when posting. It will get you more respect and recognition on the forums, as well as not make you look like an idiot. Have Fun Posting!

What do you think of that? Good idea or bad idea?

Official Town Drunk of Sandwichia. Nation of the Flood.
MBT - Impossible Just Happened
* How is it that "Fat Chance" and "Slim Chance" mean the same thing?
* If you choke a Smurf, what color will it turn?

I think you should add

No "A good way to get rid of delevelers/modders/cheaters" threads

  • 07.13.2006 11:28 PM PDT

I still say they should blacklist people for crappy grammar...

(Kidding)

Few people read the stickies and rules as it is. I don't think a lot of them would check it.

Well, people from all over the world visit this website. You can't expect people from countries where English isn't the common language to be unbelievably AWESOME at it or something. If you can understand it (even if it has a "2" instead of "to") then its OK.

As Hobo GRunt has mentioned above me, very few people actually check the stickies as it is, especially if its a "RULES! Read before posting!" because they'd want to get into the forum action straight away.

Still, most people know English. It is a standard class in Germany and other European nations. Most of the world knows English, they just dont think that they should take the time to post well, or think posting is like any old IM, which it isnt.

Heh, Japanese was a standard course for the first three years in my High School. As I had no interest in the language whatsoever I didn't pay attention and didn't learn anything, passing the subject by a couple points. What my point is, even though its a standard subject, there are still those people with that lack of motivation.

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

Once again, a brilliant idea spoiled by the fact that no one reads the stickies, especially the people who actually need to.

I wonder, perhaps the first page should be reserved for stickies. So when you click on, for example, the Halo 3 forum, it shows a page with the stickies/important threads on it and you would have to move onto page 2 to post your topic and reply to regular threads. This would remove the meta sticky system because each important thread would be pinned on the main page. If people saw "Weapon idea thread" on the first page, they wouldn't make a new thread after skipping a page into the main forum.

This would emphasise the impact of the stickies and make it harder to overlook them. Just an idea.

Anywhere the problem is great enough to warrant, at the moment, I could see it in optimatch aswell as the Halo 3 forum.

Yes, and to add to that. Always remember what Steve says "Make sure brain is enaged before puting keyboard into gear."

You'd have to put the "New Topic" button on the second page as well, because on so many occasions do you have members who probably just click the button and make a topic rather than reading any of the other threads.

There is no way of helping those members who post like that, because they just don't care. The only way would be to make such poor spelling and grammar against the rules, which is a rule that wouldn't be met very well by many of the members.

What's better: A lot of poor content, or a small amount of good content.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I prefer a small amount of good content. That way I don't have to keep wading through all of the crap.
