To play or not to play....

Why did the Gravemind fight so hard to stop the activation of Delta Halo yet apparently do nothing to stop the Activation of the first Halo?

Its possible he did not exsist in that time period, or was not around, or he could have tried to stop them but failed, we will never know.

Because he knew Master Chief was going to blow up the Halo ( thats why I think hes talking through Cortana in Halo 3 trailer: "I know you your past your future")

A fair bit if you "think" about it.

It shows the Graveminds intentions.

Ohh I love it when people try to be clever when they call me genius.

Isn't the Gravemind supposed to control the Flood? Perhaps another Gravemind was but did nothing.

No need to be a genius to work that bit out.

Uhhhmmmmm, Gravemind was on DELTA Halo, not the first Halo, hence why he did nothing. He wasn't there.

Thats what you mean? I thought you were talking about the activation 100'000 years ago. Of course he couldn't do anything, he was millions of lightyears apart.

Location: Outlaws' Summit.

this is why i believe in only one GM

the activation of 04 may not have concerned him, if he was even aware of it

but seeing as how the battle came to his precious home of inst. 05, he took action

that was an excellent by the way, thread creator

Ok in the Halo 3 Trailer cortona sound different right?

At the end of Halo 2 she is with gravemind....

So it would make sense that gravemind is talking threw her...well think of what she says i know your past and your future...maybe he new 04 was going to be blown to bits by the chief...but he new 5 wasn't so he needed to push the Arbiter and the Chief in the right dirrection...

What do you think?

To play or not to play....

It just seemed odd that the risk of the first Halo firing (as in games wise) did not seem to worry the Gravemind yet the risk of the second ring being activated disturbed him greatly.

Yeah I know it is his home and all that but still if the first ring did activate I would imagine the Gravemind would not have liked it. It just seems odd that he did nothing to stop it. yet he seemed hell bent on stopping it the second time.

Anyway it just seems a bit odd.

Hmmm I wonder if the Gravemind is all he seems to be.

Sure he probably knew that MC was going to blow up the first Halo ring but I would imagine the Gravemind wouldn't have liked that either.

No he was just a brain form merged with an zelot elite, so it could drive the ship.

It has nothing to do with him "knowing" about it.

If he's not anywhere near it, then he can't do anything about it, can he?

He couldn't help it, because he was in a completely different part of the Galaxy.

well, i havnt read the books in a while, but im pretty sure there was no "zealot elite" merger. ya, his goal was to pilot the ship, but he was still pretty young. think about the size of gravemind. it must have taken quite a long time to get to where he was. his mandibles remind me of an elite, sort of, so perhaps he underwent the same metamorphosis as keys. he retained very minute portions of what he may have use to be. im thinking that if keys had finished his slide to the flood side, he would have been a little bit more on top of the game, just as gravemind was in 2.

  • 07.14.2006 9:22 AM PDT

Yeah, there wasn't any mention in the books about a Zealot Elite and Cpt. Keyes..

i doubt that keyes was an early version of gravemind i belive there is onlyone grave mind anyways since it was the 4th halo wouldn't a gravemind be there first then on the 5th one that was probally built after 4

and this is only because its bothering me. it would be zealous elite, not zealot elite. its a describing word, not a name. zealots are religously fanatic. please use correct grammer....it drives me insane.

well, maybe they had no need for a gravemind till the threat of anialation arose. it would seem that they (the flood) had spent quite a number of years by themselves on a planet whos only life forms were quadrapedes and fowl. im no biologist, but it would take quite a lot of effort to collect all the small critters of the world to emmase a sentient, complex thought processing being as powerful as the gravemind. they needed recources, such as the captain of a unsc vessel to build a compotent ruler.

Well, if there is only one Gravemind, and he is on inst. 05, then who is to say he didn't try to stop MC on inst 04? If it is true and he does control the flood, he was doing a whole lot to stop MC. His mental influence may be able to stretch further than his tentacles.
