If I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good nite.
I got this theory last week when I was reading the Bible during my mission trip last week. I found the book of Zephania and skimmed a few verses and thought I saw a lot of tie ins.
The Great Day of the Lord
"The great day of the LORD is near—
near and coming quickly. (Halo 3 is coming along with the activation of the ark)
Listen! The cry on the day of the LORD will be bitter,
the shouting of the warrior there.
That day will be a day of wrath,
a day of distress and anguish,
a day of trouble and ruin,
a day of darkness and gloom,
a day of clouds and blackness,
a day of trumpet and battle cry
against the fortified cities
and against the corner towers.
This seems to paint a picture in my mind that reminds me of a certain Halo 3 announcement trailer. Remember that "lots of things" have happened to the Chief so he probably had a busy day before getting to the desert place in the trailer. The mention of trumpets and clouds and blackness stands out to me.
I will bring distress on the people
and they will walk like blind men,
because they have sinned against the LORD.
Their blood will be poured out like dust
and their entrails like filth.
I'm guessing this refers to what's left of humanity on Earth. Humanity doesn't really know the big picture, but it might be the covenant as well.
Neither their silver nor their gold
will be able to save them
on the day of the LORD's wrath.
In the fire of his jealousy
the whole world will be consumed,
for he will make a sudden end
of all who live in the earth."
This points out that just about everyone is screwed.
Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land,
you who do what he commands.
Seek righteousness, seek humility;
perhaps you will be sheltered
on the day of the LORD's anger
I don't know who the Lord would reference honestly.
She obeys no one, (Cortana)
she accepts no correction.
She does not trust in the LORD, (maybe Lord Hood)
she does not draw near to her God. (her maker Dr. Halsey)
Her prophets are arrogant;
they are treacherous men.
Her priests profane the sanctuary
and do violence to the law.
The LORD within her is righteous;
he does no wrong.
Morning by morning he dispenses his justice,
and every new day he does not fail, (sounds a bit like Chief)
yet the unrighteous know no shame.
"I have cut off nations;
their strongholds are demolished.
I have left their streets deserted,
with no one passing through.
Their cities are destroyed;
no one will be left—no one at all.
Gravemind did obliterate High Charity. High Charity was also the meeting grounds for all species of the Covenant. At the end of the Halo 2 credits Gravemind and Cortana are about the only things left on High Charity.
My theory isn't altogether convincing of anything, but I thought it would be cool to share my findings.
