Achronos, how did you and Ideal Science upgrade from ASP.NET 1.1 to 2.0? Did you guys recode the whole board software?

I have another question, does the whole site use the Ideal BB engine?

And one last question, how much did this cost? (Just out of curiosity)

Ph, that's nothing. I had no idea we were on cheap forums.

Dude, that is the product version. Bungie.net was custom made. I'll bet it would've costed at least that much.

But that license is unlimited, meaning that you can install it anywhere however many times you want. It is like having phpbbforfree.com or invisionfree.com except with extremely powerful and expensive forum boards.

But then you have to take into account the tima and effort on the part of Achronos and the web team to deeply customize it to make the b.net we know and love.

I know. He is a good man, that Achronos.

I was being sarcastic, anyway. $25,000 aren't even close to being cheap.

I was actually just about to suggest that Bungie sell their forum engine similar to invision

Pfff...I know. Corporations have an annoying habit of draining millions on stuff like that, generally to venders who love to give you the shaft for a version of their SQL server.

Well of course it takes time to modify anything, but the benefits are unlimited. Not only do you get a great site with ease of use, for members and staff...but you have the knowledge and familiarity with the code base. So you don't get an unfamiliar feeling when you open it up and ask yourself "Who the hell coded this?"...basically you know it. Plus you can take pride in what you do.

In addition to that initial 25 thousand you have to factor in the cost of keeping the forums working and all the servers/hardware needed for it. I bet it costs alot. I sure wouldn't want to foot the bill.

Well look at it like this...25,000 dollars is a quarter compared to Bill Gates, and he does own Bungie. And Bungie makes him happy, so what's a quarter spared every once in a while?
