Okay quick question for discution why is there no hand held heavy fire weaponary like in almsot every other game you no like a 50 cal. i mean sure we have them but there strapped to the ground or the back of a vehicle. why not be like counter strike and have a 50. cal it would be highly inaccurate unless standing still or croutched it would have like 200 shots per reload mainly used for suppresion and defensive dutys! and would add a whole new element to the game. I mean sure range combat would kill it up close it would be fomidable but not over used do to the fact you would have to standstill to get accutare fire (much like the new battelfeild where its 50 cal. is worthless unless your lieing on the ground) but would come in handy when trying to gaurd a un moveing spot like the hill. But you wouldnt have to be bound to 1 spot like the guns are now or have to worry about lock on rockets. just a thought. (bungie orignaily had a 3 barrel hand held chain gun much like the warthogs) im a sucker for a chain gun lol.

Becuase in 2550, a smaller, more accurate weapon does the jop better than just spraying the field with bullets. A marine is trained to kill as quickly as possible, spray the battefield with fire hoping to kill something.

I know, most FPS games have a heavy weapon, but what we have is a rocket. The vehicles substitute that loss by being numerous. Most other FPS games dont have the same number of vehicle appearances as Halo does.

it's not a practical weapon, have you ever seen a soldier in a war movie/show (with the exception of Predator) carrying a 50 cal.? It's only practical when mounted or on the ground on a tri-pod. I think Bungie was going for realism in their game.

I like your response you put some thought to it but the fact the vehicles have them counterdicts your theroy of ammo saveing. Your ever seen them pelicans fire there anvil rockets all they do is blancket an area with rockets hopeing to kill whats in it. or in other words there not useing high tech to acctully guide there 1 rocekt to its target and boom!! so that alone makes me wonder why no heavy fire wespons sigh lloll. but your point was a good 1 and i will accpet it :)

Acctuly i have seen quite alot of war movies with guys running around with heavy fire weaponary but there usally a squad of 2 men combined into a larger tatical squad and used for suppresion of enemys so the rest of the team can advance fruther to its target.

I never said anything about saving ammo, i meant speed and effectiveness on the battlefield. In Iraq, you can the difference between who is shooting because US fire is burst or semi-auto and the non military fire is fully automatic. It isnt about saving ammunition, it is about killing your enemy quicker and more effectively. A 3 round burst gun with a high accuracy is much more desireable than a gattling cannon that sprays with a 4 foot raduis.

Uh.

* we Have the hugeass sniper rifle 50 cal.
* Rocket LAuncher
* The turrets.

The closest thing to heavy weapons would be unhingable turrets, like in Far cry. IT would limit your mobility, you run slower and you are reduced to 200 shots. Plus heavy recoil. The large turret is actually a MAchine gun itself, just on a platform with a ammo barrel.
