Back in 1996 or around that time period i used to play a game made by bungie called myth. Myth was an RTS that at the time was so amazing and so free that people didnt bother to cheat on it. In fact a world war 2 simulation was made on it that was considered extremely realistic. What im wondering is why was Myth 3 canceled (or never hit shelves anyway) and why did bungie originally want to make halo an RTS if myth 3 already had been present in the past. I am very depressed that the series was never continued. To remind some people myth was an RTS while Myst is a roleplaying puzzle game.

Recon, this is off-topic, I know, but did you (or any Master Mod, for that matter) ghost-edit that post in order to link it here? How often is this power used? Who all has it?

Well, Myth III did, in fact, hit the shelves, but it was made by Mumbo Jumbo, and I hear it has major suckage.

There's the Chimera expansion. I can't remember where to get it, but if you check around the myth.bungie.org site, you might find a link to it.

Or you could just wait until someone else comes in and links to it.

To tell you the truth, I played the first few levels of it, then quit. Wasn't as interesting.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

Myth 3 was never conceived by Bungie; they had moved on to Halo. Then Take 2 bought the rights. However, I'm not entirely sure on the development timeline, so it is possible that Halo started after Take 2 got the rights.

The Myth games sound great (except for the third one). Is it like commanding an army?

More like commanding a small band of warriors. You usually have somewhere between 5-40 troops in each level. And you can't build or hire more. On occasion you get additional troops at certain points in certain levels, but you don't get to control when you get them, or where they end up. The game is about unit conservation. A nice change from C&C in my opinion.

I suppose it's kind of like in Halo, when Foehammer drops about 5 marines at certain points depending on how many you already have.

I like that feature. Personally, purchasing/building troops can get complicated in some games.

Sort of, except for the "depending on how many you already have" part. It doesn't matter how many troops you have (1 or all that you started with), you get the full reinforcements. Or at least I assume, since I haven't lost that many troops when I got reinforcements.

If you choose to get Myth, remember these important lessons:

Save early, save often.

Go for the high ground.

Watch your dwarves and archers.

Ghôls are faster than archers and dwarves.

When Bungie started work on Halo, Microsoft liked it and bought Bungie.

When they did this, Take 2 wanted something for the shares they had in Bungie (like 19% or something), so they took the rights to Myth and Oni.

I downloaded the Myth III demo, and it's bad.

I do not play to be the Vidmaster! I play to make sure that as few of my soldiers die as possible, even if I have to save and restart at a certain point a hundred times!

Chimera comes packaged with Myth one and Myth two along with some Myth fan-maps in 'The Total Codex' pack. Thats how I got it at least.

I always thought it was a shame that Bungie lost the rights to the Myth Series, more so when (the horrible) Myth three was published. Its fantastic storyline and amazing game play that comes with all of Bungie games was a fresh take on the Real Time Strategy games like those of Blizzard Entertainment. I so wanted a third installment to be made by Bungie, but it appears that its a lost desire of mine.

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

Sadly Recon is right...I haven't played the full version of Myth. But I have dabbled with the demo...

Don't blame the Trow. They wouldn't even exist if Nyx hadn't gotten all huffy about Wyrd making his own world...

Does that free them from punishment? They destroyed just about every other race they came in contact with.

I'm not saying I'm backing them, only that Nyx made them just for that purpose. She didn't want Wyrd to succeed. So... they were sort of predisposed to massive destruction. I only wish I could see some Callieach-Trow war action.
