No, well at least not openly. The levels should be hidden from MM so thay can not be used as a means of insult and attacks. They should only be viewable in the XB Dashboard or after a game is completed and you are in the pre-game lobby.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

I think Ranks should only be viewable by others if they are on your friends list!

I'm not sure. I would have said keep the current system, but the past week my levels have suffered from quitters, betrayers, and modders.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

No. It makes the game a competition when it's supposed to be a game. Halo PC is 10x mroe fun because you can choose your own games and it is played for fun, not rank.

This belongs in the Multiplayer Ideas Thread

I have a nice writeup about just this topic in that thread.. But it's lost to me right now, so I'll just post it here too..

I'd like to make a point to everyone that say "Please don't put ranks in Halo 3 due to it causing cheaters"

First off, let's go over the mindset of a cheater. Is it because of rank? Maybe a little, but not after the "You mod, you're banned after 10 games." Cheaters cheat because it gives them the feeling of being superior to you. It has little to do with rank. Cheaters are abundant in every game, regardless of ladders or no ladders. ("Leaderboards")
When that "wee little 13 year old" laughs in your face, it's only because his cheating makes him feel superior. They usually do it to make up for lacking skill. I'm sure loads of you have played cheaters that weren't cheating when you played them... They're usually pretty terrible players. Cheating actually decreases skill.
Here's the real problem: That cheater thinks he's better than you, and because some people get so frustrated over it, it's all worth while to them. They're just trolls. Bullies. And everyone in the community that whines (the real whining, not just complaining slightly), just makes it worse. They're like vampires, feeding off your misery.

Secondly, RANKS do not cause cheaters. Dishonesty causes cheaters.

I love when games are fair, regardless of winning or losing. If the other team didn't cheat, (and of course, weren't jerks) then "Good Game!". Kudos to them, they've beaten me.

The real point here.. I'd love to see ranks return, I'd love to be able to brag about my level, and I'd love to be able to see my own achievement against other players, world-wide. Just because a few unsupervised children (and some very immature adults who act like children) ruin a few games, why get rid of levels? In doing that, Bungie has shown the cheaters they've won.

Now onto the really big deal that makes it even better; Halo 3 and the Xbox 360. Not only will Bungie be detecting cheaters sooner and easier than ever before, the 360 will also be an incredible machine for someone to modify. The level of modding on the 360 (currently) isn't easily done. Your average "13 year old" couldn't do it without the help of someone with real know-how.

Let's hear it for ranks on Halo 3?

Thank you. Some one who agree's with me. They say that the ranking system was just to put good people with good people, but I gotta say, playing against good people in halo pc just made me get alot better, not diminish my playing experience.

personally, i would like to be able to choose to go in ranked or unranked in all the playlists. obviously, people who go in unranked won't play those who go in ranked, but if you've hit a losing streak, you can practice in the unranked version of the playlist.

NO GET RID OF THE RANKING SYSTEM!!! There sould only be a leaderboaurd.!!!!!!!!!!

  • 07.15.2006 10:08 AM PDT

Personally I would prefer it if they got rid of the ranked system. It is just a game, but some people take it so seriously that it takes away from the experience. I think that the vast majority of players just want to have fun. If you want to do it competitively maybe bungie could host tournaments on a regulaer basis and you could get ranked in that, but for regular matchmade games I dont think there should be rank. When I have friends over most of the time we cant do some of my favorite game types because they're ranked. If you didn't have the rank system then when you have a friend over you could play any game you want.

I think they should stay, but I don't think your level should be able to go down.

The Bring Back Bloodgulch Group have many members looking for more its kind of an unofficial petition to Bungie to bring back Bloodgulch in Reach http://www.bungie.net/fanclub/bx3g/Group/GroupHome.aspx

OF COURSE IT SHOULD BE RANKED AND NO IT WONT GET RID OF CHEATERS THEYLL CHEAT ANYWAY.............exactly!
The rank in Halo2 is part of what makes it so great.Although it is just a game the fact that die hard Halo players have a rank to show their ability and skill is what gives us the challenge...TO REACH THE HIGHEST RANK WE POSSIBLE CAN (LEGITLY)..Now if you want to make the rank system as near perfect as possible just stop the cheaters as much as possible. If bungie can find a way 2 ban bridgers and standbyers as fast as they did modders then there should be no problem with leaving the ranks system. Also they need to bring back the leaderboards which were so nice to see before the cheaters ran amuck in HALO2....Leave the ranks just find better ways to stop cheaters as soon as they attempt to cheat its that simple...P.S(NO WAY IS HALO FOR THE PC AS GOOD AS HALO FOR THE XBOX)
