You guys just hate the Arbiter because you could not handle another playble character. I am glad that those who do not hate him are sensible and mature to realise his reason for being in Halo 2 and Halo 3. I always imagined that either the MC or Arbiter will die saving one or the other. But really, don't be stupid and just go out in the threads and post that. We already have an ideas thread.

Yeah.. Im sure thats what it is.. But back to the actual discussion.. The arbiter taking over would be interesting, but all others before him have died, which is a strong lean towards his death.. Perhaps after the war ended, the remaining covenant (Grunts/Elites/Hunters) would leave Earth and continue elsewhere?

Yeah, it's possible. Maybe it would be far more subtle but equally powerful to have Cortana be the main character who dies. After all she's always been there with us, warning us about dangers ahead, giving us intel on whats going on, helping to keep us safe. Her death could be equally shattering as the death of any of the others, as we lose the one thing that remained constant throught Halo 1 + 2.

Wow.. Havent thought of that.. Losing Cortana would work I suppose, but it would be odd without her sarcastic comments at every moment.

I always thought that the Arbiter or Master Chief would die saving one another. Personally, I thought it would be the MC. However, there might be a scene at the end of the credits saying that he's back. Maybe Bungie will "kill off" a character, but actually leave enough room to let the player decide what happens to the Universe and the characters. If anything, I'd say Cortana, Half Jaw, Gravemind, and maybe Admiral Hood would die. Half Jaw needs an actual name, too.

Cortana can't die... She is Artificial Intelligence... But if she did the Master Chief would lose his Captain Obvious... Cortana gets pretty irritating sometimes...

I'd think that she'd be completely absorbed by Gravemind, or her chip is smashed, and so on. I wouldn't see how she could succumb to Gravemind, since it does not seem like he could interact with an AI. How would he "absorb" her? He can't plant a virus. I hope you all get what I'm saying.

Dont worry about it Proteus.. And nice theory.. Perhaps the MC will be stuck defending Earth, and the Arbiter will attempt to save Cortana, dying in the process? Hmm.....

Yeah... Gravemind is a plant type flood thing and Cortana isn't...

EDIT: And The Arbiter wouldn't die... 'Cause he pwns

Yeh, that girl sure knows her sarcasm. I would miss her quick remarks. Then again Halo 3 is the last in the trilogy, so its not as though she'd have any lines to say afterwards if she did survive. She's gotta be there right till the end though. I'd hate to lose her early on.

I don't care if I get flamed, but I think this would be a good plot twist to have the Arbiter die heroicly. I mean, you really don't care about him as much as the Master Chief, and face it, the Arbiter kind of wants to die. He's a very tortured character, so death would be somewhat redeeming for him. But he should go out heroicly! Not killed by Truth, or someone, just in a snap. He has to go out with a fight, as his final send off. What do you think?

thats a good idea. since the story isnt about the arbiter, he should die defending the MC in some standoff between the flood.....yeah....awsome

Please post in a different manner, or dont expect any replies, other than the occasional flame... And most people werent happy about finishing the game as the Arbiter, I might add.

::EDIT:: Fixed a grammer error... At least, I think it was.

True. But did you think the final battle of Halo 2 was as good as the final battle in Halo 1?

From what I can remember, she was not there when I would have wanted her most. Remember The Library? Guilty Spark? Yeah, she was so busy helping us that she forgot she was supposed to be with us.

That is the very reason some people don't like him. So please, go away.

The book "The Fall of Reach" said Cortana had a 7 year life-span, which is just about over. She can't DIE but she maybe goin' away...boo-hoo...

What final battle... You drive a Warthog through a friggin' ship... with Flood blowing up everywhere and Grunts and Elites and... you get my point... Halo 2 HAD a final fight...

This may no longer apply because she is now integrated with a mortal being who has very a long life span.

Exactly... Except, I dont particularly like him.. And I myself believe Cortana may last longer than the predicted seven years, as she seems to be a very advanced AI.

Wow, my thread's gone for four pages! Anyway, I don't hate the Arbiter, I like him, but I think it would work for the plot if he were to heroicly die. Die taking out Truth, or something.

This is probably due to some clever story writing. We have Cortana looking out for us all the up to AotCR. Then Cortana mentions an enemy the Covenant are afraid of, and she tells us to go there. So, we end up in a swamp. Alone. In the mists. Fight our way to a structure. We go down into it. See mangled bodies and blood. We're alone. We enter the room and watch the video. We're now alone left to fight new enemy that appears to be zombie like. Its the ultimate way to try and make it scarier by removing the constant companion you've had everywhere so far and leaving you on you're own just as really weird stuff starts happening.

Thats true Lone Heritic. and i dont think they are going to make cortana run out of juice just because AI is supposed to last only seven years. its the last game they will keep her.

I know, I was just bustin' yo baullz'. You are all seemingly intelligent people to discuss things with; I feel spoiled that rare people like you guys are on these forums.
