"Your destruction is the will of the gods...and we are their instrument."

It was just an idea from a guy thinking up random ideas. He also made a thing called the Wombat, which is basically a Coyotey from Dark Watch(I think that's what the car with a mounted gun was called) I don't see any practical use really, the pelican works just fine. I think the only vehicles left out of Halo would be a human flying vehicle or possible a hovercraft type deal.

The albatross dropship is the crashed vehicle in relic. It is primitive, human.

It was designed by bungie.

it doese'nt look nextgen , looks good but not nextgen
If by next-gen you mean crappy, dark and colorless, I agree. It doesnt look next-gen at all.

I like it better than the ones currently used. It seems it has a bigger payload too.

Why do we need the Albatross when we have the Pelican? Pelicans are like Spartans...they are made for combat....Albatross are more like...that guy you see driving the 18-wheelers down the highway. See the difference? Nimble Armed-to-the-Teeth Pelicans or a Paper Armored Albatross with no guns? Ahhhh....

The Albatross dropship was completely unknown to Halo fans until the recent Multiplayer Map Pack expansion disc. Not mentioned in any of the Halo games or books, its role and use are largely unknown. Only seen on the multiplayer map Relic, the Albatross is similar in size to the "Pelican", and seems to have fewer armaments. The cargo bay is quite large, with room enough to house a large number of troops or supplies, or a few vehicles. It has been speculated that the Albatross fullfills a cargo transport role anologous to the real-life C-130. Another possibility, based on the fact that it only appears in a level entitled "Relic", is that the Albatross is perhaps an earlier form of the Pelican Dropship. Role and reason aside, the Albatross appears to be a functional and possibly future part of the Halo franchise.

There are three drop doors that are at the back of the Albatross. The Albatross is a slow moving air vehicle. The Albatross does not have a lot of defenses, only 2 turrets at the front, but with its heavily armored structure it can stand a considerable amount of fire.

a description i pulled from the net. clicky.
