How many people here would be angry if halo involved timetravel? I know I would, its such an easy way out usually.

It would make the game so bad. Like seriously, talk about totally screwing up the plot line. I agree with AnimeArchfiend in that it is the easy way out (not a good thing)

* Not to mention the fact that many players would become confused. Timetravel can become tricky to write for.

lol I was thinking a while ago that maybe the Halos sent the Forerunners back in time. Thats why Guilty Sparks said the Cheifs armor was only level 2. Which would mean that the armor gets alot more upgrades.

Just something to think about.....

I don't care, single player sucks so bad anyways that I wouldn't be surprised if I saw it.

As much as I don't think bungie would involve time travel in the story; Bungie would make it work...

PS: Has bungie let us down yet? (only one answer): NO!

I wouldn't be mad if it worked for the story, and made sense. I doubt that will be the case though.

Check out all my theories and creations at HBO!

Or read my fanfic, "Effort Cannot Conquer Faith" -- it won a signed novel from Eric Nylund!

If implemented cleverly enough, it would be a very elegant way to end the series.

if the rings just make time go back it will be like donnie darko.....

if it ends with every is the flood and the cheif has to kill the gravemind/or active the ring and something tries to stop him it will be like matrix......

i just want an original ending.............

I really hope tehres no time travel, but lots of things point to it, like in hte books it says he doesn't understand but he can work forerunner stuff like the bridges and guilty spark says something like hes seen him before and hes been waiting.

But time travel is just so dumb. If you think about, its a wierd scifi thing, but its really dumb.

  • 07.15.2006 4:23 PM PDT

it could be good or bad, depending on how they do it.
It would be cool to see the rings when they were first fired, or the creation of the flood or something like that

That doesn't matter because there will be no time travel in Halo 3.

Well, so is Slipspace.

There's nothing wrong with time travel in itself. It just has a certain stigma about it because many storytellers have used it as a sort of deus ex machina to lazily end a story arc. But Bungie's better than that... I trust they could handle it intelligently.

It's just so over-used. It's been in too many things to name. My two favorite uses of timetravel though were Back to the Future (which was not a way out, but a story in itself) and RVB! The time travel from Red Vs Blue has to be the most hilarious use of timetravel ever.

For those of you who do not want time travel, here is a quote from Joseph Staten, where he agrees that time travel is corny.

HSP: 'Time travel' has been decried by some readers as one of the more hackneyed plot devices in story telling. The events of Sep 7, 2552 at Reach provide ample possibility of that device being employed in Halo 2. What comments do you have in regards to time travel, Halo 2, and storytelling in general? [Or, paraphrased] Time travel is a little corny, don't you think?

JS: Absolutely.

No time travel. I don't want to repeat missions from previous games, even if seeing yourself in better resolution and graphics is cool. Seeing the future would be cool, but I want to stay where we are (in Halo 3's time).

It is definatly a cheap way out, and should not be used without excellent reason.

Definately so.

I shudder even at looking at some of the three-page long theories on time travel from HBOers. I don't even bother reading most of their jumble, aka the Great Wall of Text.
