Well, if we've all had enough to repetitive theories and suggestions, here's a new theory for a change. The Conversations from the Universe booklet reveals more than you think, knowing Bungie's sharp yet subtly revealing choice of words. The excerpt I find most intresting is the Forerunner artifact revealed on Coral, also the working title for the next novel which may provide some insight on the artifact and the ONI behind the excavation.

To be frank, I believe the Forerunner structure on Coral is...a Forerunner tomb. I was just looking up a word in the Webster dictionary and under 'Catacomb', the definition of it is "any of a series of vaults or galleries in an underground burial place". As Esko writes it, he/she believes the buried structure has series of galleries and vaults within(typical of most Forerunner structures, but I find it revealing). He/she also writes "but so far, its secret remain sealed like a tomb. < There's your subtle clue from Bungie's sharp choice of words. Not to mention the "Ghosts"of Coral. Whatever "ghosts" is it referring to?

Hopefully, we'll learn more about it. Whatever's inside it hasn't been disturbed.

Oh, and to reinforce the ruckus about the Monitors calling humans Reclaimers-look on the back of the booklet. It's 343 Guilty Spark's log on Relclaimer slang terminology on interloper Covenant against self-descriptors. And the usual Elite=Split-Chin, Grunt=Punk, etc. Note, that the slang terms are only used by humans. Namely Marines. MC doesn't call the Covenant by those terms. So, Reclaimer might not have anything to do with reclaiming the Index after all.

And the Forerunner motif over Earth could be a foreshadowing of Earth's Forerunner significance(we should know that by now, maybe even before the Halo 3 trailer).

I recommend that you listen to the ILoveBees stories (located here), because I believe that the artifact was revealed to be something that was small enough to be transported to Earth. I haven't listened to the entire story in about a month or so, but I think that's how it went. I think they said that the artifact revealed the location of other Forerunner items to the Covenant.

As for your "Ghosts of Coral" thing, well, I think it's obvious that Eric Nylund was deeply influenced by the ILB stories in the writing of the new novel. It deals with a boy who's family lives on Coral, and with the help of a rogue and potentially rampant AI, he gets them to Earth and into a seclusion before the Covenant attack.

"Fire at will boys!"
"Who the heck is Will, sarge?"

Typo a day keeps the doctor away.

Just to let you all know, Esko Korpijaakko is indeed a "he". It is a finnish name, although "Korpijaakko" is old and rare last name, atleast today. It might have been more common 100 years ago. Esko on the other hand is a common name here.

Thank you.

i wonder how 100,000 years will affect the bodies?

I don't know. It's said it's unsure how old the thing is. If it's as well sealed and hardened as it was described as(even the metal infrastructures on Halo aren't as hardened as the structure was described as-they can be riddled with bullet holes and scorched), whatever's inside must be well preserved(that is, if the Forerunner didn't have some cryo-caskets or something if we're thinking a tomb). Esko also said that he hopes there will be "some clue or data that will help in the war". Maybe they will find something useful. By the looks of it, Esko's tone seemed harried or hurried(either one, or both) as he was especially uneasy about the ONI getting involved. And if the theories are true about the ONI knowing about the Halos...
