For those of you who know what I'm talking about, the new euphoria technology that will change gameplay experiences forever would be a powerful addition to Halo 3. I know of only two publishers that currently have access to the technology (one being LucasArts with the new Indiana Jones game) and I was wondering if Bungie will incorporate such technology or rely on a more powerful AI?

Heres a quote from Lucas-
"With euphoria, A.I. drives character behaviors so that there's a different payoff every time. The depth of this character interaction gives us true next-gen gameplay that you simply couldn't do with earlier generations of hardware," said Peter Hirschmann, vice president of product development at LucasArts. "We've been working with NaturalMotion since 2004 to help bring their groundbreaking technology to games, and there's no better character to demonstrate it than Indiana Jones."

Interesting.

yeah but, bungie arguably had AI that in the least almost aquired these things LAST gen. I think we can rely on bungie's AI, and I don't think they will have to borrow some other company's "engine." I've noticed its all the rage anymore to just make something that really isn't as big o f a deal as it is, and give it a cool name and spout this name off like its just so revolutionary and all. It's like it appeals more to the mass market that AI is "Euphoria Powered" or "Radiant AI (ala Oblivion)" than "we've developed this really cool AI system."

You face an opponent who has never known defeat, who laughs in foreign tongues at your efforts to survive. This is Reply suicide.

"Oh Molly Connoly ruined my life, I thought the world should know."
Say Anything - Every Man Has A Molly

I'd like to see the grunts, elites, etcetera try to remove plasma grenades from their body before it blows up. That would seriously be cool.

And I'd like my marines to yell things at me, like "get out of my line of fire!".

Maybe even have my marines STOP firing when I step in front of them, that'd be nice.

I'd also like to see the Jackals phalax...

You know... some real coordinated attacks.

I'd like to see them actually try to take the territory you have. Instead of just waiting around for you to come out, actually try to take the area you're hiding in.

Oh hell yeah. I've seen the video which demonstrates Eurphoria technology and I was drooling.

If Halo 3 had it.. well imagine the possibilities..

I hope so. It would make things so much more realistic.

Ah, Endorphin could make some intense singleplayer instances.. Say, a Hunter smashing into a wall he couldn't slow down for. Heh.

I hope so.
I love playing around with Endorphin.
and It looks really nice to.
Imagine unloading on some Elites. and they are trying to step out of the shots while being Punched down by the Bullets.
But I think it would have to be limited in Multiplayer.

Okay, and how would they then get it off their hands?

Bungie will have a great AI for Halo 3, if not Euroblabala, than mabye somehting just as good. Hang on to your helmets, and get ready for the ride of your life in...2007 WHOOO!!!!

Thats not what Euphoria does.
Its a Dynamic Physics Based Animation blending engine.
It basically combines ragdoll and keyframe animations together.
So if you punch a grunt in the face. It will ragdoll backwards, while trying to either cover its face, or catch its fall.

If you look into it. Just Google, "Endorphin 2.5" or 2.6 and goto the Natural motion website. They have some videos that better demonstrate what Euphoria and Endorphin do with animation.

Now, that would be some pretty emersive gameplay. Like, instead of just bashing a grunt in the back, the masterchief like, would put his assault rifle over his neck and choke him with it. Or if you just bash it's front, it would smash the butt of the gun right in teh grunt's face. *drools*

Eh, that's not quite what it's doing.. All that comes down to is programming and animation. Euphoria/Endorphin blends ragdoll animations with real animations. I think some of you are missing the point here..

Imagine it like this: You shoot a grunt in the head. His death animation makes him do a back flip, but anywhere through the flip, he becomes a ragdoll. So if a box intercepts his path, he'll smack it and ragdoll accordingly. There are many other uses for Endorphin, but that's just one of the main things. As Crow said, you could have an Elite doing his regular walk/run animation, but the bullets would make him recoil a bit every time he is hit, while he still does his animation.

Just remember... I keep it real...

I would glady wait a bit longer, or pay just a small bit more if I KNEW euphoria was going to be added to the game. I don't care if another company made it. Just imagine playing a game in single play or multiplayer with AI and NEVER seeing the same tihngs twice. What would be even nicer is if the game learned your habits, as in jumping a lot in close combat or one using a sniper a lot. But that would not be part of euphoria. I would just love to see emotion of the face of my enemies just when they realize they are going to die, in the game. This may seem sick, but watching them struggle to their feet after two shots to the leg would be quite entertaining.

I agree with the rest of your post, but I'd like to also congratulate you on this particular sentence. Some people have trouble seeing "AI" is different than "Euphoria"..

Correct me if i'm wrong, but is it like the way things in the enviroment react to the player. Example: I kick someone in the stomach and the person who gets kicked can react in certain ways depending on how hard he is kicked. where in the stomach he was kicked and how he was kicked. This would make it so no that no matter how many times I try, no reaction would be identical to the last? And they AI would learn your habits and can show pain in the body part that was targeted?

You could get the same reaction for doing the exact same thing, but the first part you said is mostly correct.. I'm sure Crow will correct me on some of this. He knows more about it.

Just remember... I keep it real...

"AI" is what the computer does in a particular situation (such as move or fire) while "Euphoria" is what it will look like (such as sway from the force of the hit or bending only body parts affected). "Euphoria" gives a sence of realizm. It gives the feeling of pre-rendered animation to live actions.

Euphoria has reaction based animations built into it as well.
So if you kicked him in the crotch. He would move upward. and the Ragdoll would grab its crotch when the player kicks him.
He would then continue to grab his crotch while using ragdoll physics as he falls down to the ground.
It creates very realistic reactions to Inputs.
Its primary use is to blend Keyframes and the physics of Ragdoll together.
So if you are dangling over and edge. your feet would swing back and for with the ragdoll motion. While kicking with the Reaction that is programmed with Euphoria.

Well if that's what it does than that would be sick. But if they don't do that I am sure that whatever Bungie has in stored for us is going to be good.

It would be sick.
Imagine throwing a Plasma Grenade at an Elite.
And it does its typical roll to dodge the grenade.
But it jumps into a box and lands on its head/side and then picks itself up and retaliates.

So basically it takes the idea of Cause and Effect, blends it with Ragdoll animation to make a physics engine? Or is it used to make a more intelligent AI?

Yes basically.

For new readers please note that AI is the intelligence (obviously) of the NPC and its ability to thnk for itself. Euphoria is the animations used resulting in gameplay that is never the same twice. Basically, very realistic.
