I think their should be an option if you want it hidden or shown.

There is an option, it's called ranked or not ranked.
Competion = ranked
No competion/ have fun = not ranked

It's your choice to what you enter for matchmaking.

I think everyone realizes that modders mod for rank, because it makes them think they are better. I think one of the reasons Halo is so popular is the ranks, it makes you want to work for it, even though it means nothing, just like gamerscore. Its really addictive.

I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.

Ooh you forgot standbyers too. I'm starting to play a lot of standbyers again on Team Skirmish and even on Doubly Team.

Hiding the ranks would go a long way towards reducing cheating and other lame online behaviour.

Stat whores are the bane of online gaming.

I think the problem with Halo 2 was Bungie couldn't modify the game enough to stop cheating. In Halo 3 they will probably have something in the source code that detects for modified content and not allow someone to sign on with it.

I think they should take it farther than not being able to sign in and just have their 360 explode.

Ranks should be shown for the bragging rights. Don't let cheaters ruin the bragging rights.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

I say get rid of ranks altogether. It's a horrible idea, and all it does is turn Halo from an enjoyable game into a game so centered around winning it isn't fun. I also hate matchmaking...why can't I choose the games I want to play?!

My solution: Make everything like Halo PC. Have a server that lists current games being played, and have no ranks at all. That way, you can play what you want, when you want without having to worry about ranks ruining your fun

Ranks should be hidden during a game. Then the game wouldnt be based on who has the higher ranks, all you would know is that the person your playing is as good or better than you, and whoever wins wins. The ranks can be displayed after the game is completed and you have left the post game lobby by clicking on the guys name in the XB dashboard.

Although, no ranks would really be better. Anyone wonder why Team Training and BTB Slayer are so much fun? Becuase you just play. I sat in a tank for the entire game, and only died 1 time. It was just fun, random stuff that can just happen to put you on top, rather than you just thinking you have better strategy and are a more skilled player.

A no rank game is not a game of competition, but just a game.

Help a brother out. Click on the referral link, sign up for a fun game, log in once for the next couple of days, then you never have to think about it again!

And yes. I understand how pathetic that is, but nobody reads these things anyway... right?

I think there should be ranked, and unranked as there are now (with rankings showed!).

This might sound "Noobish" to some people, put I'm proud of my rank. It's not even all that high, but I get an enjoyment of playing with my friends and saying "Wow (insert gamertag here), you must be having a rough day! you've gone down 2 levels since last time we played!" then proceed to stomp on them about it.

YEs, sometimes levels can be pridefull, like my 25. But all they cauase is frustration. I finally played 17 games and got my level up to 27. Then i lost the 1st game i played at that level, and i dropped to 24. I lost 3 levels from 1 game. It was really anoying.

But there could be an Unranked and a Ranked option before you choose your MM playlist. But of course, the ranks would bleed over into the non-ranked section and people would still talk -blam!- about them and put down other players.
