Ok, this is a SPARTAN we are talking about here. They can survive the heat of re-entry from ultra-high altitude drops, are equiped with very powerfuly energy sheilds, have layers of titanium alloys and coatings to refract plasma and heat, so you're saying that they can be injured by a puny flame thrower? Plasma is 1000 times hotter that any flamethrower we have. To be realistic, it'd have to be significantly weaker than the plasma rifle or carbine and people would complain.

Well the shield takes damage and then the skin tight black suit can't really dissapate heat.

What we do in life, echoes in eternity.

also...why would a spartan want to take a flame-throwerinto battle when he could have an assault rifle...it doesn't make sense

If he wants to burn his foes...they should just tell them a "yo mamma" joke

I agree, everyone is talking about how cool the flamethroer would be when it would really probably suck.

I agree though, the flame thrower does not make any sense, The only thing Id use the Flame thrower for is probably to cook hotdogs and hamburgurs, other than that, its useless to me!!!

Hmm.. you know, the fact that an armor that powerful exists doesnt make sense to start with.. you know this IS a fictional story

Are you guys telling me it would not be halarious seeing a grunt run around in circle because he is on fire? Other than that, the flamethrower would be useless.

Forrunner tech that the covanent found that then was improved upon by the Humans by raiding fallen eliet corpses. Neither the Covies or the humans are up to the Forrunners original tech level as 343 GS sayes Mc's suit only registers as a level 3, out of 12. Plus it's 400 years in the future so it's possible. lol.

A flamethrower would be somewhat idiotic, but the plasma thrower would not be, plasma is ALOT hotter then fire is and i think that it is a much better aproach at it. Plasma shouldnt just remove shields, it should burn a whole in your chest.

That is why Bungie didn't put one in Halo 2, it can't be done correctly.

This is the most rediculous statement. The SPARTAN armor was made to disperse plasma, i dont think fire would be a problem either. If the SPARTANS could take a re-entry in just thier suits, a flamethrower is cake.

Anyways, a flamethrower just isnt a practicle weapon. It doesnt release its energy accordingly, one reason why today's military AND the Halo military (except Halo PC, just kind an extra weapon that didnt fit) have gotten rid of.

Anyone know why the MAC guns shout superdence giant projectiles instead of a gigantic warhead? because a solid piece of metal will release its energy all in 1 direction, meaning all the energy from the object if it impacts is transferred into the target, destroying it. With an explosive weapon, all the energy is dispered in all directions than just the target, not quite as efficient. Its kinda like the difference between a sniper and a shotgun.

i hate this whole nonsense about "its only a game" If bungie was going to make weapons and a storyline that didnt have to make sense than the humans would have weapons that didnt need ammo or were invincibly strong. It's supposed to have some realism. The flamethrower is outlawed by the Geneva Convention in todays and honestly what use would it be today in combat. You probably wouldn't even get close enough before be murdered by rapid gunfire. The flamethrower doesn't make sense in the future and this talk about a plasma thrower I suppose is kinda realistic but unfortunately there already is a plasma thrower. It's called a plasma rifle, last time i checked that thing launches plasma charges.

Okay, then the humans should be using giant bombs or nukes, because thats what they would 'realisiticly' do. What you think they would fight fair? They did it to japanese people, why not aliens? They do limit the arsenal that is at the disposal of MC and the marines.. they would be using the most advanced weaponary, not little machine guns but full-auto AR's. Hell, the shotgun wouldnt be that crappy either, i mean the shotguns that are around now can rip someones head off easily, imagine in 500 years of technological advancement. In 200 years, our weaponary has improved beyond common sense, imagine in half a millenium. Anyway, the plasma rifles or throwers should be alot stronger, maybe make it a constant wave of plasma instead of small useless bursts. I mean come ON a freakin' hand gun can kill an MC in three shots but thousands of degrees of plasma can't even burn him. Plasma should be stronger then bullets.

IT ISNT PRACTICLE! That is what he was saying. Not barbaric, just not practicle. It has a minimul range, and doesnt disperse energy properly. This is 500 years in the future, and even TODAY we have stopped using them. And you know why we used them in WWII and Vietnam? Becuase we thought they worked well, but we were wrong. Several friendly fire incidents caused us to abandon them.

The things exploded when shot, not making them particularly useful in an opening charge, and they required a very close range to work effectively. Its like a shotgun that burns. Anyway's, you guys just want it because it was in Halo PC, which was an experiment by bungie. Actually, bungie didnt even make the game. They just handed over the code for it and it was made by someone else.

Bungie has the weapons weighted to make plasma better against sheilds and bullets better against health. That's why the Plasma Rifle/SMG combo owns so much.

Dawn of the Dead video Here
6 Minutes of Hell video here

You guys worry so much about the realism, and not enough about the fun aspect.
You really think that in 400 years we wouldn't have weapons powerful enough to completely destroy any target? You think we will actually still be using inaccurate shotguns and rifles? Or sniper rifles that have freaking contrails. Hell, the AK 47 is more accurate and powerful than a Battle Rifle or an Assault Rifle. While many aspects of the game are curved to be more realistic, the weaponry is created with fun in mind. Plasma should pretty much burn right through a Spartans armor, and one shot from a rifle shouldn't go through their helmet. But if it were that realistic it would either not be fun, or it would be called Counter Strike.

The Flamethrower, while innacurate and with a limited range, was one of the most fun parts about halo PC. It was like the range and power of a shotgun, mixed with the rate of fire of an Assault Rifle. It was capable of taking out entire vehicles extremely fast, was easily the weapon of choice for base defense/offense, and was overall fun to use.

I say if sentenial beams can make it into the game, there is absolutely no reason to leave out the flamethrower. I say put it in Halo 3.

The PC version's flamethrower weapon wasn't even made by Bungie, Gearbox included it when porting it over.

I agree, even today flamethrowers are old technology. They were used for a short period during WWII, and they were extremely cumbersome and innefective. I don't even care about the "cool!" factor, it just doesn't make any sense.
