OldFriend has a point, and also fails to mention some things.. Flamthrowers go around corners and down tunnels for quite some ways. (They were abandoned due to their instability. The average life expectancy of a flamethrower soldier in battle was about 3 minutes. If the tank was shot, death would insue within about a 20 foot radius.) Of course, 500 years could make quite the flamethrower.

Wait a minute, when did any Spartans go through re-entry?

In the Fall of Reach and in First Strike
a Group of Spartans take a Pelican to the surface to stop the Covenant rom taking over specific objjectives that I cannot remember the names of right now.
Anyway, they realize that the Terminal Velocity of the Pelican is higher than the terminal Velocity of the Spartans.
SO they jump out of the pelican and land in a forest in a free fall.

That is why there is no fall damage in Halo 2.
Because if they could survive a terminal Velocity hit, then you shouldn't take damage jumping off of the bases in blood gulch.

Not everything in the halo has to be completely realistic. You forget to mention that several spartans died in that fall, many were critically wounded, and most were injured minorly. They also came in at a good angle, and had trees to slow them down a little. They were already inside the atmosphere when they jumped out of the pelican, they would have burned up had they been outside the pelican. That example is false. They are not invincible to heat. A flamethrower makes more sense than a sniper with a contrail. It should be in the game.

They didn't go through re-entry, but they did fall from a great height. Crow did not mention re-entry, he's replying more in the sense of "When did the Spartans jump out of a pelican?"

Does that make sense?

Of course, Halo is actually incredibly realistic, given the technology and time period.

The sniper rifle rounds are gas-propelled.. Maybe a trail does make sense.

The Flamethrower, I personally liked.

I agree though, the flame thrower does not make any sense, The only thing Id use the Flame thrower for is probably to cook hotdogs and hamburgurs, other than that, its useless to me!!!
Howbout some Grunt-cookin' ?

It's a game.

The gaming industry is worth more money than the movie industry. Therefore games should be made with an in-depth storyline.

And what does this have to do with my post? I never said they couldn't survive re-entry, I just said Crow wasn't talking about it at the moment.

Why would they have gas powered snipers that make a revealing contrail. We have 50 caliber snipers to this day that can shoot over 2 miles. While my point about them not being able to survive re-entry was false, It still is a game, and still would be fun to use a flamethrower.

Fire is technically considered plasma. If you want to know more, read about it here- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_%28physics%29.

But, generally you are right. Fire has a very low temperature when compared with the rest of plasma.

people who don't play halo pc don't realise that a lot of people hate it so they don't use it. its barely used in the pc multiplayer games if its not used much then whats the point of including it in another game?
xbox gamers should actually ask a person who has or has played halo pc multiplayer if they use or like the flame thrower.

I played halo PC alot, and I loved it dearly. Alot of people I knew shared my opinion. I would rather see the flamethrower in halo 3, than the sword.

"Chief this is Lord Hood. Your going to go into the Ark and stop them from activating it, we'll send a pelican down with some weapons"

"Thanks Lord Hood, make sure they give me a nice bulky flamethrower that I can use because it seems fun"

Well, I hate the flamethrower from Halo PC. So erratic. so unreliable. Short-range. WEak. Just so overall sucky.

Gah... Plasma is not "hot" simply superheated gas....

Plasma is the fourth state of matter, simply listed as hyper-energized. Scientists play with plasmas in their hands in the lab all the time and it tickles... Also, my plasma television does'nt appear to be a pocket super nova.

Thus, those saying that the Plasma weapons of the covenant are as "hot as the sun" or other such are just talking smack. Heck, the Chief's shields are most likely plasma based and you don't see him burning his fellow marines to ash just by standing next to them.

  • 07.17.2006 4:24 AM PDT

Hated by many, confronted by none.

Hmm.. you know, the fact that an armor that powerful exists doesnt make sense to start with.. you know this IS a fictional story

Fictional but it's still realistic! Everything has natural causes

You are very wrong. Plasma is not "gas". It's another word for slime or something like it. You are right when you say plasma isn't hot but the covenants plasma weapons fire superheated plasma. You can read that anywhere, even in the manual I think. The reason the plasma rifles don't burn or explodes is that the plasma heats up when flying out of the muzzle, you know this bright glowing thing at the business end... and the plasma shields are not superheated, hence, no burning of marines. I hope I've straightened you out :-)

By the way there is no such thing as a "fourth state of matter"

Dont have the flame thrower, make it into a plasma thrower. That would make a lot more sense if you where to have some kind of thrower.
