Subject: Why the flamethrower doesn't make sense.

Hated by many, confronted by none.

No it's not

The flamethrower and this "human combat knife" I hear everyone talking about is pointless. Especially if its in multiplayer..

The combat knife yes is pointless but the flamethrower could basically be a weapon that tears away at shielding, kinda like the plasma pistol

Would a fire honestly start in the swampy atmosphere Flood love? Its like walking through a river. Even plasma has trouble burning Flood.

Also, I find the argument "It's a game" to have no bearing on this conversation. [sarcasm] If its "just" a game, why not make the SMG kill you with one bullet? Or make the plasma pistol shoot Stephen Hawking at you. I mean, if its a game, then Bungie has no reason to make any sense! And as a game, Jackal snipers have no reason not to kill you with one shot to the foot.

Hey, why do enemy weapons even work against me? I demand that I be invincible because it would be fun that way and nobody cares if Halo makes sense or not because its only a game.[/sarcasm]

I agree, everyone is talking about how cool the flamethroer would be when it would really probably suck.

Go and play Halo PC, then I might actually consider your point.

The flamethower works well in Halo. Sure it doesn't make sence that the armour can't stop flames, but who cares in the game?

I have absolutly no idea why it was left out of Halo 2, but I hope it makes a return in Halo 3.

I care deeply. There is no reason the military would take a faulty, unused gun, and invest valuable time and money just to make it workable. Why waste time with a gun that doesnt work, when you can take a design that does and make it better. Why make a super-strong pistol, when making the same strength increase to a rifle ends up with an even stronger gun for less?

They left it out, because it makes as much sense as a plasma pistol shooting flowers. We tested the flamethrower, and it was found wanting. Its smarter to make a better rifle--a design we know we can fall back on if the improvements fail.

The PC version's flamethrower weapon wasn't even made by Bungie, Gearbox included it when porting it over.

Wrong.

Use a hacking tool and look at the map "The Library". There, under weapons, is the flamethrower. It was going to be in the original Xbox game.

During the last few years of the rebellion the U.N.S.C most likely used it as a tool rather then a wepon.
