**I posted this on the gamefaqs forum this morning as well**

I don't know if this is posted elsewhere, if it is, I am extremely sorry for wasting your time. I assure you right here and now that this may just be entirely false, I'm not even sure if I believe it, but, it just got me to thinking. Read through please, because I also gave some information supporting the theory, or at least not going against it.

After watching the "Halo 3:In the Beginning" movie and rewatching the trailer twice, it got me to thinking. Could Cortana have sent those transmissions in the state she is in, or could they have come from... another source? Would Cortana risk sending the Master Chief one, let alone several, transmissions?

Well, due to both Bungie and IGN (the "behind the scenes" movie for the trailer) both said "we don't even know if this is Cortana" sparked my interest. Could the person who sent these messages be Dr Hasley, the creator of the SPARTAN project and the MJORNIR armor?

Well lets look at the quotes of the transmission.

"I have defied gods and demons."
Now I haven't read the books in some time, and I only read them once, but didn't many people believe against the SPARTAN-II project? saying it was doomed to failure? (which obviously came out a success)

"I am your shield, I am your sword"
As to the explanation above, I don't quite recall if Hasley created the MJORNIR armor, but if she did, there is the shield and sword. Also she gave John the opportunity into the SPARTAN-II project where he learned everything he knows about combat and defense.

"I know you; your past, your future"
Dr Hasley did know him, as well as his past, but she would know his future just as well as Cortana would.

"This is the way the world ends."
This still comes from Eliot's poem, I'm not sure how it would connect to Dr Hasley, seeing as this is also a view into the future (and almost plain site).

Now by taking a look at the bungie webpage, they have two things that mention or show Cortana in their Halo 3 section. One is in the Announcement FAQ where it says
"Well as you can see from the trailer, at a minimum, we'll see the Chief and Cortana in some shape or form."
Now I know this for certain, Dr Hasley made Cortana almost as a replica of herself, she made herself into the AI. Now in one way or another, I see this as Cortana in some shape or form.

Secondly, the storyboards have a shot with Cortana screaming, which they label as Cortana. This is my biggest flaw, and the only thing I can say about it is that nowhere in the page does it say that it is from the trailer. I know however unlikely and implauseible it sounds, is it not possible that the storyboard art is from another part of the game?

Thank you for reading, please offer support or controversy to my theory. Please note the flames will be 100% ignored unless they have legitimate information backing them, but please be nice about it.

**From OBLIVONATOR**
"could cortona be some sort of intelegence from dr hasley that would also make sense"

Cortana could possibly send transmissions. High Charity should have long range communication to its fleets across the galaxy. What would be the risk of her possibly crying out for help, or warn? Maybe Gravemind is using her to taunt the MC that she's now his.

No way it could be Dr. Halsey, who is currently missing and surely would've aged. It's Cortana.

The storyboard of Cortana in agony no doubt hints that she is in no way all right. And you can see flickers of her distorted screaming between the static in the trailer. It could very well be in another part of the game, but just to let you in on Cortana's state.

Yes this has been theorized before, and most people would agree that it isn't Dr. Hasley. Yes Cortana chose to take on the appearance of a younger looking Hasley, however the person sending the message isn't Hasley. By the time the Halo series takes place, Hasley is in her late 60s to early 70s. Watch the trailer again and tell me if you see one wrinkle on that face, tell me if you think the person in the trailer looks anywhere near the age of 65-70.

Probably not because people who never read the books wont know who Dr. Hasley is.
