Congrats on a another FanFest. I was at Last year's event and it was total ecstasy.
With as many Halo fans out there, it is impossible to let more than a small fraction into an event such as this. It sure is too bad that 90 people were allowed in when Sketch said only 50 would be selected from the lottery. I checked the FanFest chapter on the 7th column and as of now and last week before E3 only 29 members are shown. (Granted a couple of those are Bungie employees.) Seriously, letting all the webmasters of the popular Halo sites automatically in is BS. So what you're saying, is unless we have a site dedicated to Halo which receives hundreds of hits/visitors a day, we're not fans.
A "weighted lottery" is a horrible solution to the problem of how to decide who gets in or not. This year's FanFest was advertised on HBO (and other sites I'm sure) so for those who sat staring at their monitor had a much better (read: weighted) chance to get in versus those of us who work during the day and check their mail and news at night. Lord knows how many people actually applied to get in. Last year it was first come, first served and wasn't advertised on many sites. (My buddy actually found out about it on the TXB forums.)
I have a 7th column chapter, have been to E3 for 3 years now and was able to get to go to FanFest 2K3. I'm not a big enough fan I guess, now am I??
I sure hope Sketch comes through with a Halo 2 event before it comes out like he mentioned in one of the first FanFest announcements. Here's looking forward to the Penny-Arcade Expo, as well.
