If we get one, what should it be called? I'm thinking The Blue Board of Death, as a nice Microsoft reference.
Talking about that, we should also probably think of names for The Gallery and The News - who wants clear descriptions?

How about, "General Any Topic With Exclusion To Things Covered By Another Forum Or Anything That Has A Slight Religious Or Political Connontation NO Matter HOw Ambiguous Because It Could Be Offensive To Some Abstractly Devout Fundementalist"

It has a nice ring to it.

Angry? No. It's all in good humor.

At least it is now. I've calmed down a bit. It's still a bit of a culture shock, comming from the rest of the internet to a pre-release game forum run by fans. It'd be like if you went back to the Dark-Ages all of a sudden.

Would you close a thread if I found someone saying Halo is "good" offensive because it is my personal belief that only Iggy the Magical Elf is the only true good thing in existance?

No response? Or did you just log off?

That's a rather poor comparison.

You compared the World Trade Center attack to the release of a video game. That was destined to offend someone. It's one thing if someone comes into a thread and has their personal beliefs offended. It's another entirely when you MAKE a thread that risks obvious political or religious contradiction. The former cannot always be helped, but one way to prevent it is by denying the latter.

It's not a poor comparison at all. He got offened, you are right, because my belief contradicted his, and he couldn't handle it. The reason he gave for offense was that Christ (in my analgoy, Iggy the Magical Elf) has X characteristic, NOT Halo.

That is probably the single most offensive thing have ever seen in my life. The second coming of Christ is the oppisite of the terrible evil of that day!

The analogy wasn't even vague. It was almost exactly the same, except instead of God it was "Iggy." He took offense under the same premise that I may take offense - direct contradiction of belief.

So, though I've calmed down and understand your reasons for closing it, I disagree totally that the analogy is poor.

Now for another question: how was it 'risking obvious political and religious contradiction'? I debate at www.christianforums.com all the time, and through and through the topic of the world trade center, I have NEVER heard someone say Christs's Second comming was the antitheses to evil for that day. The two events won't even be SIMILAR. His belief was abstract and completey shocking - I wouldn't be suprised if the belief was created moments after reading my post. How is it obvious to guard against a belief as random as that? It'd be like defending against the belief that Iggy the Magical elf has some odd, monopolized characteristic that nothing else can have.

Again, I understand you closing it, but I still don't agree with some things.

You're confused. My locking that thread had nothing to do with that guy's post, and everything to do with what you posted originally.

I'm not confused. You explained yourself and I understand. There are, however, other points I am arguing. They are independent of the locking, at this point.

ObbiQuiet,
The Moderators Are Always Right
Now can we get back on topic?

  • 05.19.2004 4:53 AM PDT

What was the topic again? *scrolls up* Oh, yes. An off topic board name.
What about "The Official Off Topic Board"?
