Do you remeber in the first Halo CE vid at E3 when the Elites had subtitles?

And do you remember how stupid it looked. I do.

Are you kidding me? That was awesome. Now, if only they could have done away with the human mannerisms that went along with those subtitles, that would have been perfect. They're aliens, not humans in costumes. Take advantage of the medium. Do something that's never been done before. Break molds.

Speaking of which... the Plasma shield was great. I'd love that in a game of Swords for Halo 3.

I thought it looked corny and stupid. But remember, this is only my opinion, dont take any offence to it. I just really thought it was dumb.

You face an opponent who has never known defeat, who laughs in foreign tongues at your efforts to survive. This is Reply suicide.

"Oh Molly Connoly ruined my life, I thought the world should know."
Say Anything - Every Man Has A Molly

Something that's never been done before? You mean Aliens we can't understand and have to read subtitles for?

Now... I don't know about you...

But I've watched enough movies in other languages to TIRE of reading subtitles.

ESPECIALLY reading Al Bhed from FFX. (Granted that's a Cipher and not another Language... but to even read the language, you need all the Primers).

It was done before, and it was ANNOYING.

Who wants to listen to alien clicks, buzzes, and crude vocalizations? Who wants to try to figure that out? I'd much rather my aliens speak English in a video game, because it's more understandable.

And if you remember correctly.... In Halo 2... The Prophets speech sounds like music. You don't realize they're actually talking until Cortana Translates it for you. I kept thinking it was just some music or something whenever I walked by the projector.

And we can't understand what the Jackals or Drones are saying.

Bungie HAS done something with Alien speech that we've never seen before.

The Aliens actually TALK during battle. The Grunts spoke in the first one, and it never bothered anyone that they didn't bark or growl (as their native tongue is).

We were given a reason why we can understand the Grunts, but not the OTHER members of the Covenant. We were given reasons why the Covenant could understand US.

And following along the lines of Halo 1, we get an upgrade in tech and translators... So now we can understand most of the speech in Elite tongue as well.

Having low tech translators which have to be upgraded has NOT been done before. All the other games give you an auto-translator so that you can understand EVERYTHING. Bungie didn't go this route. They are keeping in reality, that we'd have trouble figuring out the languages of an alien race, if it showed up, and didn't want to teach us their language.

NEVER. BEEN. DONE. BEFORE.

Now go do some research before you blatently state something as stupid as "It's been done before."

I'll be waiting.

Hated by many, confronted by none.

Read the books. Before the covenant started their "holy war" on us they studied us for many years. And they translated our language.

Maybe they should talk English (coz mc has a translator) but its in a much lower and throatier tone so its really hard to hear what they are saying. But as arby they should speak english in their halo2 voices coz hes elite. And grunts should do what they do in the books. Bark, scream and genrally make noises your typical psychopath would make.

But in cutscenes they should speak english just like h2. NO SUBTITLES!!! It would be odd. Like jibberish on games when the developers are too bloody assed to make the people speak english and then theres just subtitles. If it was in their langauge when they talk in cutscenes you would hear the same alien phrases over and over again like on KOTOR.

I'd prefer a bit of a mix. Who says the translator is perfect? Might not translate everything. "Humans! Wort wortwort!"

(Wort wort wort was the reverse of GoGoGo! in H1)

Yes, they speak English. So? It's a universal language now. It would be retarded if the Elites spoke their own language. I can picture it now: From the beginning: "Yes. They called it the Pillar of Autumn"="Arf arf gleep wort woof woof mep" Strange enough, I once saw this pre-Halo 2 trailer in French of which Truth snarls "No enemy has ever resisted our might" in the very beginning. French sounds like a perfect alien language!(no offense against the French).

And Elites still say "Wort Wort Wort".

Lol i can imagine it now...... Your in a covie ship. Its quiet... Too quiet. You turn a corner and you here "Le worte worte worte" as an Elite comes running..... No, skipping, out of the shadows. Its wearing a beray (french hat, i cant spell it) and has a long curly mustouche. It starts chasing you. Then "WHOP" it beats your head in with a bread stick.

the elites should speak their language! not ours!

The art to good shooting lies in the ability to aim at where your opponent isn't, and miss.

In the cut scenes it is fine because you can just assume that they are actually talking in their own language and it has been translated.
For MC, I assume the translator has been upgraded with the new armour, but i do think that the Elites speach mixed in with the broken English was pretty cool in Halo 1 and the Elites perfect English in Halo2 was a bit of a mood breaker.

Expect the Covenant to speak perfect English in teh Halo movie.

I'm not too sure about the Halo Movie being 100% engrish... I'd be kinda sad if it was.

Soldiers come quickly, I feel the earth beneath my feet.
I’m feeling badly, it’s not an attempt at decency.
And if you’re well off, well then I’m happy some for you.
But I’d rather not celebrate my defeat and humiliation here with you.

English, Speaking Elites

And no they dont speak english, none of the covenant do, Master Cheif has a build in translator in his helmet, all the Spartans do, most of the covenant probably do too. Its in the books.

Not making an argument, just a statement! The Arbiter actualy speaks English. Proven through the Arbiter's communication with SGT. Johnson and Chief.

damn it spartan 219, you beat me to it :-)

this kinda shows that they do speak english

remember the final scene: why did the arbiter understand the conversation with johnson, keyes, and GS? why is johson able to understand the aliens? why did tartarus obey johson's request to have his boys "chill"? cuz they can all understand each other. why? cuz they all speak english for some reason

Also I find the Elites speaking english highly hilarious. ESPECIALY, the obnoxious Elite!

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

Remember this message at Harvest.

"You are an affront to the gods, and we are there instrament" and in The Fall Of Reach that was no translation, the Prothets, Brutes, Elites, and Grunts speak English.

I was very displeased with english talking elites. I think they should speak basic Covenant dialect, even though they had english in Halo 2. I honestly think they messed Halo 2 up, giving it too much of a different feel to it than in Halo 2. Hopefully Halo 3 will not include the Arbiter.
