I don't subscribe to the theory that they are the same as the Drinniol, for the sole reason that Drinniol is the Covenant name for the species. From the conversation, it sounded like the Sharquoi (possibly plural, possibly singular) had not been previously used, as if they could be used only in certain situations. If they were the drinniol, why couldn't they have been used in any situation where the Covenant faced human vehicles, on any planet? Why would they, alone, among every species in the Covenant, have two different names? I like the idea of it being the name of the Forerunner ship, but it doesn't seem to fit into the formula of names the Covenant uses for their vessels IE Begotten Angel, Pious Inquisitor, Truth and Reconciliation, etc. What I think they are is a special group of assassins that were saved in reserve to be deployed on Earth and eliminate the UNSC's leadership.
I like the idea of the Sharquoi being assasins that would be kinda cool, like they would move really fast and be really hard to kill maybe could be a boss battle?
