Taking out an entire Covenant Armada all by your lonesome - Priceless
There are some things marines can't do.
For everything else, there's Master Chief.

I just posted this in another thread but I thought I should elaborate even more on my idea. Also I would like to give much credit to Greatness x me for actually comin up with a part of this theory which is going to be included.

First off does anyone even truly know why the Covenant hate humanity so much? The answer is no. I will answer that and tell you why this war happened in the first place.

Now, what if this was isn't about Humanity angering the gods or the Covenant? What if the Forerunner aren't exactly as dead as we would like to think, I believe that they are in a form much similar to the Achients of the Stargate universe. But the difference is the forerunner do activly intervene in affairs in this universe.

Foreseeing their eventual demise at the hands of the flood they seeded two races on opposite sides of the Galaxy. Two races with potential to do great or even horrible things. Humanity and Prophets. The humans being just a less evolved and less advanced version of the Forerunner, which would explain MC's familiarity with Forerunner tech. This is due to his enhancements most likely, after all the Spartans are most likely the most intelligent humans to ever be born. Possibly being pushed decades or even hundreds of years ahead in the evolutionary chain.

The Prophets are simply a "pet race" , an intelligent but diluded species, with also great potential. It would also explain how they can also operate forerunner tech. Granted they have probably been exploring for hundreds of years before Humanity extended out into the Galaxy.

What if while one day while scavenging forerunner sites a forerunner appeared and told them of all the races to be assimilated into the Covenant. Then they told them of Humans, a growing race of Heritics who do not embrace the Great Journey. They are an Evil race of beings who if left unchecked could destroy the Galaxy. They would have then told them that their are only two ways to deal with this problem. Use the Halos to unleash a cleansing flame or destroy Humanity and once and for all end all Evil in the Universe.

This brings me to my next point. What if this war this whole conflict was thought up by the Forerunner to decide a sucessor to themselves. A sucessor who is able to withstand a genocidal war for decades. This war could be meant to test humanities perserverance in spite of overwelming odds, strength, resolve and ingenuity in order to oversee the galaxy just as they did at one point. This would certainly explain why we no virtually nothing as to why the Covenant want us destroyed. I know this might be a little out there theory wise and I don't even know if this has been thought up already. But it would be just like Bungie to add a twist like this to their story.

give me feedback on this idea tell me what you think

Sort of, but with the way the theory works in my head there are almost no parallels to AVP if any

there are some ancients from the stargate universe that openly interfere with what happens with lower races (ie: helping them acend{sp?}) who are called the Ori and give its worshippers *god like abilities* (sounds like goa' ulds?) now you have the normal ancients who don't interfere at all, so in your theory the Forerunners would be more like the Ori.
its a good thoery as i have seen some similarities between the stargate and halo universe, like the flood seem to be a bit like the replicators.

I know about the ORI and everything but I chose not to refer to them because a lot of people in here may no know what I am talking about, but the ori idea is a good one but I thought Bungie painted the Forerunners as the Achient good guys unless I am misinformed
