tell me did you need to download somebody elses map in farcry to play them?
and why dont you need to download the modded mapson xbox live halo 2 when you play a modded game?

1. Yes, you do.
2. Because Far Cry uses servers, and Halo 2 doesn't. You don't have to load a modded map to play it because it is hard coded into the host's Xbox. What you do goes into his console, is computed, and comes back out. You don't need to download the map, again. You are essencially playing on the host's Xbox, not your own. If you don't understand that, then too bad.

Yes I know you need to download the map first, I'm not retarded. The fact that you have download the map could easily be 'fixed'. So when you join a custom game using a custom-made map, it would first tell you there was a map needed to download, and you could have the option of leaving before it started.

Right. But then how will I know if the map is bad or not before I download it? I am still waiting for a better explaination from you. I still haven't really gotten any yet.

Also, a mapmaker would be fine, but please don't let anybody play they're maps online, unless some system is implemented to make it worthwhile.

How many times does someone need to explain this to you guys in a topic about map making?

Bungie Has two options:

1. Let users create maps to play with their friends and other people in.

2. Don't let people create maps, but Bungie creates maps and sells them to people for money.

Get real people, they want your money, and rightfully so. If you were a developer you'd do the same thing. It is the same with dedicated servers, too much money to spend, and they really don't care if some geek stand by's once in a while, if it means they don't have to buy you servers. Its called the real world, come visit it for a while.

Its great to have ideas for games, but don't let optimism take realisms place. This is a perfect case of that.

It's a risk you'll have to take. If it's a person you know hosting the match, you should know if they are a good mapmaker or not. And what's wrong waiting a minute or two to download the map, it's not like it's the end of the world (you could go do something else productive).

And what should I be explaining to you? How a map editor would be a good thing? Well I'm sorry if you don't see how it is a good thing, it doesn't really need explaining. It can do nothing but good, the only bad thing I can see is what you've stated "crappy maps", but then again, you don't need to play these so long as you don't join random custom games.

Perhaps so. I've considered everything that you have just stated, but I just don't think it would be a terribly great idea. Don't get me wrong, though, I would enjoy making maps. The only problem I have is online accessability. As I have said, if there was a way to improve the system, then I would be all for it. I don't want to dismiss this idea outright, though, without any consideration of the benefits. I'm just stating a few opinions as to what might be wrong with it or what could be improved. I'm not going to state the benefits, as most of them are obvious. I just enjoy a good debate, is all.

There could even be a weekly or bimonthly tournament for Best User Map that could be put up for download on XBL by Bungie. It would be awsome. Yes all the way.

If you really really dont give a chit come here (but I really don't care)

Oh and the Empire would totally crush the Imperium...I mean come on Vader has a theme song! Does the Emperor have one?!? I think not!

The problem with this is that (pie tastes nice) bungie would have to spend days fginding the winners oh yeah no

I personally would love to create my own maps for personal use. The most obvious problem would be the ability to download other peoples' maps. I propose if they did introduce the editor to only let the box it was created on play it, or transfer it by use of the memory card and then played in online custom games. I would only want to download the best user created maps online. I like the idea of monthly contests where people submit their maps to bungie and then they select a winner and allow for the "map of the month" to be downloaded.

Only people who have no creativity would say no.

I have plenty of creativity, but I still say no. Fill the disk with good Halo 3 stuff, then release Dev tools for download on the PC, which is a better working environment for dev tools (Trust me on this, I use the Hek). Then you just put it on a USB stick, and transfer it over using the in game interface to pull the map from the USB stick.

This will also stop the XBL marketplace becoming flooded with "amature" maps.

I would love to be able to design my own maps. I know i would make some of the better maps. All my ideas (which i obviously think are great because they are mine) would become a reality.

What i would really like to see is a Map Maker system on its own disc. It would be like an expansion pack. However, the Map Maker i'm imagining is better than any other map maker / editor ever made. With my imaginary Map Maker, you could actually build anything....anything at all. It would be a sort of click (press A) and drag system that is simple if you want it to be; or complicated if you have the time to make something really good.

I understand what people are saying when they describe the potential horror of the customs world that involves a Map Maker. However, i suggest that my imaginary Map Maker would be just that little bit too difficult to use for the kind of people that would build such horrible maps. The only set structures would be in such small details that one could not simply put a map together piece by piece (i.e. Timesplitters stylie).

Not all maps that people create are terrible. I played Deus Ex online for a short while and found that some of the best maps were designed by players - even with a not-so-good Map Maker.

These custom made maps would only be playable online in custom games and when you select to join a game it would give you the option of downloading the custom map (if they are playing on one). Select Yes or No. Perhaps people could rate the map out of 10 each time they played on a new map. This rating would taken from everyone who had played on it, averaged, and presented on the same screen as: "Do you wish to download the following map: Elevation - Yes / No?" - "This map is rated as: 8/10."

Not only could people create some awesome maps (you would want me on your friends list for that reason alone!) but they could recreate (some poorly, i admit) maps from other great games! Facility - Goldeneye anyone? Oh man Multi Flag on that map.....with modern graphics too.....

A truly awesome, well thought out, detailed Map Maker expansion pack for Halo 3. I'm not sure how much i would actually play the game. It's obviously not a must have but if they made a good one, i'd be on it for days at a time.

Look at Far Cry's amazing map editor, it's a hit!
And Ubisoft even released an expansion pack, so a map editor does not equal the company rejecting the game. It's a win win situation, map editor= ^_^

Well, maybe Bungie can come up with a PC-XB interface for the Map Editor. The XB360 is already hooked to the home network and the Media PC's, so why not have the Map editor take advantage of that link, or use a USB/Ethernet connection between PC and XB to make it work.

if you say NO to the map editor, come here so I can kick you in the nuts! All you people are STUPID!!! Of course the custom maps wouldnt be in MM because you would be allowed to download only the ones you wanted like in Tony Hawk games. You wouldnt have to go to freakin college either because all the detail and programing and -blam!- would be put into the game and the pieces already! I sware, alot of you people arent thinking. For a map editor, you dont need a degree from harverd to do it. It's for a video game people, use you heads.

There would be a specail menu in the game maybe to download maps from if you want others to play them. I think you should be able to set it to public or private so only certain people can play them. Like you'd need a password or something to be able to download the map.

So I said, say and will always say YES to the map editor!!!

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

No. I'll tell you why.

Ever go into an online match in Far Cry? Have you seen how many terrible maps there are, such as giant thousand foot tall staircases leading nowhere, or maps where one team spawns with all of the weapons and the other team gets nothing? I don't want to play in a custom game where the host thinks his map is so cool, when in reality it is complete crap. Trust me, every person does this, and it will ruin custom games permanently if people can play their maps online. Nobody will be "playing" anymore games, such as capture the flag or king of the hill. Instead, people will just be running around a map that only one person knows. Trust me, ever since I played Far Cry online, I have dreaded a map maker. I would rather not be able to make my own maps than play crappy maps that other people made whenever I go into a custom game.

So the answer is no. End of story.

Ah, don't you love the arrogance of youth.

Though I agree with your reasoning, to call your point 'End of story' is just thoughtless. There are plenty of ways to avoid having to play on badly made custom maps. Just think:

Have a rating system. Every player can vote for each map only once - on a scale of 1 to 10. This way, nobody can spam vote their own (or another's) map, and the genuinely decent maps will gain appropriate the scores. This takes away the problem Far Cry had, and it would not be a difficult system to implement either.

Find a problem with that.

id love one, but no ordinary one like a cheapo little crap basic editor, im talkin warcraft3 hardcore, like the map editor should need its own DVD cd alone... or maybe just an ordinary 700-800mb cd would work to :)

but yeah, think big!

Go ahead! Release it! But maybe 2 months down the line from the initial Halo 3 release, on a seperate disk. That way, only those who are actually interested in making maps and know they have the time, patience and skill required to use it.

Like the H2:CE team. A dedicated group of people who took the original HEK far beyond what it was originally intended for.

Course if I could I would use the actual Dev tools used by Bungie to make the maps, but that's not gonna happen...

Arrogance? Isn't it a bit arrogant to debase someone else's opinion like that? Apparently you didn't quite get my message. The way things are now, I wouldn't really like a map maker. Please, read my other posts in response to that other gentleman's comments. You will find that my reasoning isn't quite as "arrogant" as you think.

Oh, and youth? I still wish I had my youth... College is quite a doozey.

You don't always have to join someone else...
