No. I'll tell you why.
Ever go into an online match in Far Cry? Have you seen how many terrible maps there are, such as giant thousand foot tall staircases leading nowhere, or maps where one team spawns with all of the weapons and the other team gets nothing? I don't want to play in a custom game where the host thinks his map is so cool, when in reality it is complete crap. Trust me, every person does this, and it will ruin custom games permanently if people can play their maps online. Nobody will be "playing" anymore games, such as capture the flag or king of the hill. Instead, people will just be running around a map that only one person knows. Trust me, ever since I played Far Cry online, I have dreaded a map maker. I would rather not be able to make my own maps than play crappy maps that other people made whenever I go into a custom game.
So the answer is no. End of story.
Ah, don't you love the arrogance of youth.
Though I agree with your reasoning, to call your point 'End of story' is just thoughtless. There are plenty of ways to avoid having to play on badly made custom maps. Just think:
Have a rating system. Every player can vote for each map only once - on a scale of 1 to 10. This way, nobody can spam vote their own (or another's) map, and the genuinely decent maps will gain appropriate the scores. This takes away the problem Far Cry had, and it would not be a difficult system to implement either.
Find a problem with that.
Arrogance? Isn't it a bit arrogant to debase someone else's opinion like that? Apparently you didn't quite get my message. The way things are now, I wouldn't really like a map maker. Please, read my other posts in response to that other gentleman's comments. You will find that my reasoning isn't quite as "arrogant" as you think.
Oh, and youth? I still wish I had my youth... College is quite a doozey.
My apologies - but I said it was thoughtless, not wrong. Debasing something is to lower it's value or quality. I was refuting your comment through accusation of it not being conclusive, as you suggested it was.
And I didn't see you refuting my actual point... would you agree or would you still not like a map maker?
