nah, it wouldn't be worth the effort. Sure, it'd have nigh-unlimited potential, but there'd only be a handful of custom maps that would actually be balanced. People complain enough about existing maps designed by a specialized team. Besides, I have a feeling that a lot of custom maps will either just be big, empty snipe-fests or stages crammed with trains and explosive barrels. I think implimenting this tool would only delay the game further for something that won't be used or it will be used into oblivion.

EDIT: ok, maybe I was a bit biased there. IF they gave you the ability to trade maps online (so that if someone made a totally killer map that everyone wanted a chance to play) then I'd want it, but if it's just some trial and error thing that takes up too much space, then I say nay.

No. I'll tell you why.

Ever go into an online match in Far Cry? Have you seen how many terrible maps there are, such as giant thousand foot tall staircases leading nowhere, or maps where one team spawns with all of the weapons and the other team gets nothing? I don't want to play in a custom game where the host thinks his map is so cool, when in reality it is complete crap. Trust me, every person does this, and it will ruin custom games permanently if people can play their maps online. Nobody will be "playing" anymore games, such as capture the flag or king of the hill. Instead, people will just be running around a map that only one person knows. Trust me, ever since I played Far Cry online, I have dreaded a map maker. I would rather not be able to make my own maps than play crappy maps that other people made whenever I go into a custom game.

So the answer is no. End of story.

Ah, don't you love the arrogance of youth.

Though I agree with your reasoning, to call your point 'End of story' is just thoughtless. There are plenty of ways to avoid having to play on badly made custom maps. Just think:

Have a rating system. Every player can vote for each map only once - on a scale of 1 to 10. This way, nobody can spam vote their own (or another's) map, and the genuinely decent maps will gain appropriate the scores. This takes away the problem Far Cry had, and it would not be a difficult system to implement either.

Find a problem with that.

Yes I do what if your the first person to play the map, it wouldn't have a rating, so you wouldn't know if it sucked or not,or maybe the creator of the map just had a whole bunch of his friends rate the map and they all gave it 10 even though it sucked as a joke.

Well if it only had one rating, it would say so. You get the number of ratings and the overall percentage - similar to youtube. That way you'd know not to play it wouldn't you.

a map designer ( a'la far cry instincts ) would do 2 things:

* make the games replay value swell like a kitchen sponge in the ocean as long as you could use custom maps on live

* and make halo be much more sucessful.

my idea:

add a few missions from previous halos in the map maker.
imagine DM on 343 guilty spark, metropolis or the silent cartographer

Arrogance? Isn't it a bit arrogant to debase someone else's opinion like that? Apparently you didn't quite get my message. The way things are now, I wouldn't really like a map maker. Please, read my other posts in response to that other gentleman's comments. You will find that my reasoning isn't quite as "arrogant" as you think.

Oh, and youth? I still wish I had my youth... College is quite a doozey.

My apologies - but I said it was thoughtless, not wrong. Debasing something is to lower it's value or quality. I was refuting your comment through accusation of it not being conclusive, as you suggested it was.

And I didn't see you refuting my actual point... would you agree or would you still not like a map maker?

lmao. Forum Junkie?! Can you see the date I joined? See many posts/topics started by me? No. I'm actually at work. And the reason I 'guessed' (assumed is a better word) the poster's age, was because most adults, or at least those more 'of age' tend not to consider their word gospel. And with a comment like, 'End of story', surely you can see the naivety there?

BTW: "he who has different views than him" - Excellent english :p

Only people who have no creativity would say no.

No people that don't want to have to fill their xbox with a new map every game they go into...(LAGGGG)

perhaps add this rating aspect along with its own live playlist and you've got a non-backfireable online controlable envorment where creative idea's and imagines can run wild, while those who prefer, profesional maps, stick to all but the "CM or Custom maps" playlist.

It wouldn't be compulsory to download a new map every time you play!?! You would have to choose to, much like choosing which gametype you would like to join. You would acquire your favourites and play them until you wanted a change. Then you would download another map, if you CHOSE to.

Apology accepted, and no hard feelings.

As I stated above, I am merely pointing out errors or problems of this "system" that should be implemented. Personally, and am sort of in-between on the matter, although I am beginning to think that a map editor isn't such a bad idea, that is, with certain problems solved. Oh, and in rebuttal to your previous points, that would perhaps be a good idea, although it is all still a matter of opinion on whoever joins that game.

Either way it works, though, I am sure that if Bungie put this into the game they would know how not to make it into a nightmare scenario.

Oh, and "End of Story" is just a silly little euphanism. I just meant it as a closure to my statements, although a forceful end such as that might not have been the best way to go.

It's pretty solid. I don't think much could go wrong - although I don't think custom maps should EVER be ranked, as too many people could exploit their own map designs. It would be a scammer's paradise.

You know, maybe some people actually want to make an enjoyable experience. But what i recommended was that Bungie released the map's for download after having a few teams vote on which was the best by playing a game of each gametype on the maps. They could then test it for balance and fun, and see if it needed any "MINOR" tweaks to assist t with balance, mainly weapon placement.

It would be better. Another thing is there should be a custom map gametype that, when being played, will tell the others that it is a custom map. The map that can be loaded can only be the party leader's, which is optional for either permanent save or temporary save just to play it.

I think the option to save or temporarily save a map would be crucial. You could leave the game without the map, and save HDD space, or leave the game with the map if you really liked it. You could delete any files later. This option would come up at the end of the game after it is loaded.

Save Map? (A) 'Yes' or (B) 'No'

Another thing it could be used for is Machinima's. Imagine completely unique worlds for the stories to take place in. It would add a new quality to the machinima of Halo. I still say go for it. There may be problems, but i think they can be worked out.

i think that executed carefully a map editor would be cool.

here is what i would want:

-custom games only

-be allowed to use everything (not like in far cry where you only have certain stuff)

-access to adding 'triggers'

-weather controls

PREVIOUSLY COOKIE NINJA

the new updates, and features, also shenanigens have forced me to switch profiles, my only regret is that I didn't pick a better name... ah well, nevermind eh?

I dont know if this has already been said, but if bungie integrates "live anywhere" you could design a map on pc with a mouse rather than a stupid analogue stick then transfer them via the internet or your phone to you 360.
this is the way forward, however live anywhere may not be out then (sorry for being stupid but im unsure of the release date lol) and it may be an upgrade... an amazingly cool upgrade

Do you realize how bad that would be with an editor. With the amount of idiots that play this game, there would be very few maps worth playing. Besides, the map editor would lose them money for several reasons...

1. if they ever had downloadable content, someone could probably remake it almost exactly and put it on the internet for FREE download.
2. as said before, you would have to download a new map every time you joined a game. You would probably like alot of maps you played. You would download them to a point of destroying your hard drive. They would probably take up alot of room.

The only upside for them I could see is, if you keep downloading maps you will need more hard drive space. That would cause people to buy new hard drives.

Yes, but the maps you could make wouldn't be anywhere as good as the ones created by Bungie unless you were a really good designer or you spent absolutely ages on each one. So i probably wouldn't design any myself, i know my brother probably would give it a go, and i like the idea about Bungie choosing the best each month and making it available for download because then you'd be able to see what can be achieved with the tools available.
