The covenant already knew where earth was so its pretty usless all that tactical information cause they already know where earth is the weapons reasearch and troop deployment and all that stuff.

I thought the Cole protocal was to keep the covenant from finding earth and the inner colonies. I Know the outer colonies have been glassed but what about the rest of the inner colonies (leaving out Reach and Sigma Octanius 4).

There's no point of the cole protocol, stupid, they already found earth.

The Cole protocol was instated to ensure that the Covenant would not find Earth. If that's a different planet they've been attacking during all of Halo 2, please tell me.

The Covenant are the least worrisome to have found Earth. It's the Flood that is the next biggest threat should they find Earth.

Supposedly, only the ship's captain has the authority to initiate the databank wipe. Since Miranda was not present at the time, and if the Flood quickly overran In Amber Clad, then yes, they do know.

I doubt Regret knows the coordinates to Earth. Sure, he may have found Earth, but that depends whether he remembers a series of jumbled coordinates... It's Cortana that truly holds Earth's location. And if Gravemind got ahold of her, which he did...

MC the outcast defender of Earth? That's a pretty good thought.

Master Chief leaves Cortana on an alien ship/base in the clutches of an alien intelligence. That act directly violates the UNSC Cole Protocol. Also, the In Amber Clad was left there as well. Both of these items have strategic and other important military coordinates and secrets. When chief returns to Earth and Oni realizes this, he could be court marshalled, or worse. Is the chief in the trailer unescorted by any marines or vehicles because he is an outcast defender of earth? Could he be running from human authorities and also the covenant and flood? In the other two games chief is often accompanied or runs into other marines or allies. Might that not be the case in Halo 3? Could chief be in some serious trouble?

Well, you are right. However, Cortana was supposed to destroy herself and In Amber Clad along with High Charity and Delta Halo. That would be an act of Treason as far as the Cheif was concerned and Military JAG would mean that Cheif's sentance would be death by lethal injection, televised as well. Although, as far as Chief is concerned (at least at the start of H3) he could assume everything went to plan.

What? I don't think so, dying is not least worrisome, that's rediculous. Least worrisome would be Apple going out of business.

Well I think the civilians on earth would have more scared of the Covenant attack if it was big and an actual epic fight.. Bungie totally mutilated the original story.

The cole protocol was supposed to hide the location of earth... they already found it so its pretty much useless.

First, Cortana insisted that the Master Chief left her behind in the case that Delta Halo could have activated. We’re talking about the possible fate of the universe here.

Second, Keyes stated that Cortana held the one; most important piece of information the Humans had kept secret from the Covenant – the location of Earth. But, does that really matter now?

I think that the Humans would much rather stand with the Master Chief during the final defense of Earth – rather than charge him for dereliction of duty.

Chill bro. Gotta get my bowl.

I'm pretty sure the Cole Protocol was in effect so that the Covenant wouldn't find the location of Earth. Well, seeing as they already know where it is I don't see the point for the protocol anymore. Also given the circumstances they had to.

Because you were totally there to write it.

The Cole Protocol wasn't just to hide Earth, but that was a main focus. It was created to safeguard the inner-colonies and earth later noting any human population centers. Just because Earth gets destroyed doesn't mean every other human held world magically 'asplodes' (Although if that is the Ark in the trailer maybe so). Therefore the Cole Protocol still has some use, as far as in story mechanics go.

The Covenant attacked the space stations more than they attacked Earth.

Lol, I think they'd 'hold off' with the whole Court Marshal thing till after their last hope helps them save Earth.

Or Bungie had to quickly make a trailer for E3 and they didn't have time to complete other characters. They said they wanted to announced it without disturbing the development of the actual game, that's why the trailer is simple.

Oh man, I can see it now. "Master Chief, the UNSC Medal of Honor is the highest decoration for unpresidented service in face of adversity. You are truely one of the best. Alright, start the injection process."

No, no, for some reason I don't see that happening. Unless Colonel Ackerson shows up in the game. He might be pissed enough to tryin stifle the Chief.

Since the announcement trailer takes place further in the game and not at the beginning then maybe the Covenant doesn't learn the location of Earths until they sieze Cortana? When MC left Cortana the cov still didn't know the location of Earth.

Yeah, that's why they attacked it at the begining of Halo 2....

  • 07.17.2006 4:54 PM PDT

Ackerson gave the prophets the location of Earth... they arrived in the beginning of Halo 2.... Cole Protocol is obsolete when the COV. find Earth... thereofre MC didn't violate anything. Anyways, all he did was leave Cortana behind. while he went after Truth... he wasn't flying a ship on a direct vector to Earth, which is what the Cole Protocol was meant to prevent.

The only thing MC violated was your ******er

Proof please.

Yeah, since Earth fell, I guess all the other Inner Colonies should not have the advantage of the Cole Protocol protecting their homes from the Covenant.
