the whole point of the cole protocol pretty much is to keep the coordinates of earth away from the covenant. and considering that the covenant know where we are anyway, the cole protocol really only applies to the flood. and considering that the flood steal your memories, im pretty sure SOMEONE would have given the flood the coordinates to earth one way or another.

besides, cortana was completely right about the remote detonation thing.

Hmmm. That's a really good point. I hope it's not true because if it is, you just ruined the game for me. :(

Master Chief leaves Cortana on an alien ship/base in the clutches of an alien intelligence. That act directly violates the UNSC Cole Protocol. Also, the In Amber Clad was left there as well. Both of these items have strategic and other important military coordinates and secrets. When chief returns to Earth and Oni realizes this, he could be court marshalled, or worse. Is the chief in the trailer unescorted by any marines or vehicles because he is an outcast defender of earth? Could he be running from human authorities and also the covenant and flood? In the other two games chief is often accompanied or runs into other marines or allies. Might that not be the case in Halo 3? Could chief be in some serious trouble?

I think that since the Covenant already know where earth is in First Strike.
I don't think that the Cole Protocol applies anymore.
Especially when there is a covenant fleet in the atmosphere.

the covies already know where earth is. and cortana is going to blow up in amber clad reactors to destroy high charity. so your theory is wrong. but it was a good idea.

In the above post you'll notice that I said "just kidding" once I relized my errors. I was mearly mixing it up with one of the books which I have read more recently than I have played the game.

  • 07.17.2006 5:57 PM PDT

the Cole Protocol was to ensure that the Covenant did not discover the location of Earth, seeing as how they have already, not much point in following it, eh?

The reason the chief left Cortana on the station was so that she could detonate In Amber Clad to destroy Halo if it was activated. What's more important to you? Following a military protocol? Or stopping the instant death of everyone in the galaxy? Anyway, the whole point of the Cole Protocol was to stop the covenant from finding Earth. And in case you hadn't noticed, they already found it.

I think that in the case of saving the galaxy, and that earth has already been found, that the Cole Protocol no longer applies. Just maybe...

It's a good point, but what would they accomplish by turning on the chief? He's still Earth's best defense against...everything. Plus, frankly, i'd like to see a bunch of Marines try to take down the chief! He's a freakin spartan!

Oh well...you bring up a nice point either way. Kudos for thinking!

Cortana didn't detonate IAC yet.

Cortana wasn't gonna detonate IAC to stop the flood, she was gonna do it to stop Tatar sause from activating halo if Arby failed.

Cole protocol is broken, but it was in an effort to save EVERYONE. She stayed in case Tatar Sause activated halo. It IS broken because Covies (unlikely) could capture info. (Keyes once mentuned more than just "Earth" in the protocol)

Even so, Flood may be in a good position now. If Cortana was controlled, Gravemind would most definately have the capability to strike Earth.

So, most definetly Ackerson would have a field day with this stuff. In a book or something, he will probably make Oni worried about MC. Think he may be a risk.

So, this may have a moderate impact on the plot.

Well, Chief alone in the teaser trailer because Bungie didn't have a big enough budget to animate anyone else. That's it. STFU.

HAAAAAAAAAAAA YOU NOOB!!!!!!!! what are they gunno do sue the chief? there is no UNSC, ther is no nothing!!!!!!! no government!! no judges!!! wtf is wrong wit you?? they DONT CARE THAT CORTANA IS IN ENEMY HANDS. why> shes gunno die out fomr over thinking anyways
the covies alrdy know of earth and all that yada!!! so who cares?? whats cortana gunno tel them? halo is a big ass ring that makes all other rings look like crap??? what gravemind gunno do? tele his fat slimy ass to earth? chief will just drop a nuke down his throat and watch teh fireworks since no one else is alive to give a 2 -blam!-s. honestly man... what chief gunno do?? rip in amber clad out of 100 meters of unknown substance?? how is he gunno fly a ship with no front? reactors waiting to go boom any moment? and cortana could leave because of the ship. she had to stay back incase the ring went boom...then shed pull a deja-vu and blow up the ship..boom boom everyones happy

ther are no marines...damnit just cuz Halo 1 and 2 had tonnes of marine support dont mean Halo 3 will. it is a underground resistance who just wnat to stay alive..ad WTF is stupid enough to go against a 1 ton armoured death machine that can run at 50km/h and shoot you in the head from 10 km away? but shields that arent easy to take down and reflexes that are good enough to dodge a homing missle? if you read fall of reach you know what i mean

ha ha chief will just drop the world biggest nuke...BOOM!!!!!!!!.....honestly

even if bungies starts to get mroe from the books its too late. 3 books crammed with lots of informitive stuff that cant fit in.. to include ackerson you need dr.hasely. for hasely you need the rest of the surviving spartans...the list goes on and on...wya to much to fit in a game...maybe the next Halo will be like a prolouge and you go through it straegy style and THAT could include everything...but not this Halo, not Halo 3. some stuff from the boks might be there but not all, especially the detailed stuff which draws from other detalied stuf.

Maybe Bungie will make an update containes a terrible flaw and causes you xbox to explode leaving nothing but a black outline where it used to be.

Shhhhhh. That one is still in development.

I hear the best it can manage right now is a small fire. Exploding hardware may sound easy, but they're really hard to code.

Doesn't matter....cole protocol is non existent because the covenant ALREADY FOUND Earth.
