The reason why there are The Cole Protocols is so the covenant won't find earth. and unless halo 2 was a joke, the covenant already found earth.

Master Chief leaves Cortana on an alien ship/base in the clutches of an alien intelligence. That act directly violates the UNSC Cole Protocol. Also, the In Amber Clad was left there as well. Both of these items have strategic and other important military coordinates and secrets. When chief returns to Earth and Oni realizes this, he could be court marshalled, or worse. Is the chief in the trailer unescorted by any marines or vehicles because he is an outcast defender of earth? Could he be running from human authorities and also the covenant and flood? In the other two games chief is often accompanied or runs into other marines or allies. Might that not be the case in Halo 3? Could chief be in some serious trouble?

well, freaking done, you just ruined halo 3's biggest twist.
DANG IT!!

Cole Protocol, even if violated, is useless now. The Covenant found Earth, and John did everything possible to stop them. It's the endgame now; the finale.

If Millions of Aliens are attacking your home planet do you think they'll care about whether or not you have an AI with you?

alright logically ONI shouldnt care about the cole protocol anymore because the whole purpose behind it was to keep the location of earth secret but the covenant found it already... however in the military or any corporation or company for that matter the people that are in charge... the high ranking people at ONI in this case just love that they have an enormous amount of power and like to lord it over everyone... even though it makes no logical sence i can see ONI getting pissed about it

the humans turning on the chief would be like dropping your gun in the middle of a war and deciding you'd do the rest with your fists.

Cortana
It is a blurred line that lies at the edge of Godhood and Insanity. Guess which side of it I am on.

The real enemy in Gears of War.

The legend of Croatoan

That is a good point that he violated Cole Protocal, and that is a good twist, but i highly doubt that the humans would cast out their only chance at protecting earth.

Ackerson gave the prophets the location of Earth...

Proof please.

Yeah, since Earth fell, I guess all the other Inner Colonies should not have the advantage of the Cole Protocol protecting their homes from the Covenant.

one... prove how they got the location of Earth otherwise?
two.... MC was hanging on the side of a Cov ship that was on its way to Earth, theres nothing he could of done about that, but he does have a duty to stop Truth and save Earth... this has nothing to do with the other colonies. Plus, if Earth falls, they're all f'd anyways.

The Cole Protocol was meant to protect ALL human colonies, not just Earth. Therefore, leaving an AI is unacceptable, though the NAV data on the ship would have been cleared as soon as Covie forces were encountered (ie: on Earth) to prevent the finding of anymore human colonies. Given the circumstances (Chief having no other viable option), I doubt they would court marshall him.

Cypher Kaldarese

(if you see this name, it's too late to run)

in halo one, Keyes is talking about why the capture of an AI is unacceptable. Cortana is especially dangerous if captured. Now, we know ONI ans expecially Halseys competition, Ackerson, would love to see MC fall. my idea is that MC is either about to be court marshelled and ONI blows up leaving him the sole survivor, or that ONI is already decimated and no one will be there to care. Either way, Cortanas capture is going to have to be dealt with in Halo 3 one way or another. We dont want the flood turning up on earth, that would just suck. Imagine flood popping out of the sand in Africa and civilians running around trying to escape infection forms. It would be chaos.

Keyes' blob has no bearing on Cole Protocol, because as far as any of us know there were no Flood that survived Halo 1. Thus, any knowledge those Flood had is now gone.

It's not Cortana's choice whether or not she stays behind. She is an AI, John is a human. He has orders.

Cole Protocol was set up to protect the location of Earth from the Covenant. The Covenant know where Earth is by that point so Cole Protocol is pointless....besides using her as a failsafe to blow In Amber Clad, and thus High Charity would probably make leaving her there alright since it would prevent Halo from firing and destroying all sentient life in the galaxy...

Love you Bungie!
Still playing Halo1 Custom Edition!

the protocol was based to hide earth, but it included some sub routines that included hiding all informations about earth's militaria and it's researchs/deployment as clearly stated by captain keyes

It sounds like Cortana also violated the Cole Protocol which would go along with the trailer of something possibly being really wrong with her.
