Verbatim from another one of my posts. Italics are the person I was reponding to in that thread.
This again?
Watch the trailer again. notice that even though the banshees and phantoms come so close to john, none of them even makes an attempt to target john.
similarly, john makes no attempt to take cover, or any sort of offensive action. at the very least, given his military training, he would have went prone to give himself better camoflage and make himself a smaller target.
So? It's more likely they just didn't give a chit about him. Getting to this big Forerunner artifact is way, way more important that wasting time going after this single human infantry unit, especially since these banshees are bodyguards to the Phantom. John knows this, so he doesn't waste his time going for cover, which runs the risk of making him more suspicious to Covenant in the area.
now, if the covenent in the trailer were still enemies with him, he would at least duck for better cover when faced with an armada that size. but he doesnt. he just stands there overseeing the whole thing, meaning that whatever is going on there either has his approval, or he is aware that what they are doing has no negative effect(like, say, remote detonating the 6 remaining halos).
First, going for cover isn't going to matter one whit if a ship sees him and decides to do something about it. The ships would pick him up on their sensors, if they haven't already. A rock isn't going to help against a ship-based plasma torpedo. Again, going for cover just draws attention and wastes energy, so he doesn't do it. The latter part of your post is simply an arguement from ignorance. There are several other reasons why he would just stand there, watching. One is that he is too amazed at what is going on to move. Or (and this is my personal favorite), he just does that because it's a teaser trailer, and him standing at the edge is more dramatic than him peeking timidly over a rock. Along that line of thinking, why would he be walking down the middle of a road, with no cover, ripe for ambush, with his gun slung casually over his shoulder? It's cinimatic effect, done because it's dramatic. It's likely to change between now and release, if the previous teaser trailers are any indication.
Also, the ships could see him and want to do something about it, but won't or can't. Why? The Ark is right there. A shot from a ship at John may damage the Ark somehow, either directly for from rock cast-off from the cliff or anything else.
I I think that there are no pilots for the reason that the Covenant bipeds (including Elites and such in here) aren't done. However, the Phantom doesn't seem very detailed when paused in the documentary, so...
