Obbi, the only difference between you and haloring is that you can spell better. You've been unstable, controversial and downright -blam!- in the past, but for god sakes man! Ben needs support, not your 'help' .

Obbi isnt like HaloRing at all.
He's offering advice... kinda, but what makes hime different is that he isnt insulting Ben and telling him directly to go die!

I'm glad I'm at least partially understood. :P

My goal is to help him objectively see suicide. With the handful of people I've helped, that's all it took - an objective look at what was going on. It just took getting past the emotional drama. Telling them not to kill themselves and to 'trust' your decision is shallow and superfluous - it is merely a suppressant and solves nothing. Only when you help them see the choice they're faced with in an honest, objective light will they be best equipt to help themselves.

Whatever their decision might be.

One last thing before I make a rational point.

What the Hell was so great about the last Samurai !? If I were Japanese, I'd be infuriated! The movie made no sense whatsoever! The hero's (who wasn't Japanese, oddly enough, nor a Samurai) very mission made little (he hates his boss for doing his duty, but feels an affinity with the Samurai he killed for doing his duty.. what the..?) sense, and in the end, Led to an irrational loss of life, that benefited nobody, except the Box Office. Enough already!

OK! now, I agree, If you die to save another persons life, people will be grateful for you, but the truth is, you cannot put a price on life! No life is more (or less) valuable than another. The reckless disregard for human life I see in my generation is very worrying indeed.

Suicide is not the answer, though I am glad that some people have developed their own opinions. (Do what works, my parents always say)

However, as much as both sides argue, there will be no end to this debate. Why? because in the end, it all breaks down to your personal values and beliefs, which 1. Cannot be discussed here, and 2. Will never ever be able to be conclusivly approved/disproved.

ok dear righteous i would like to tell you that i study bushido my knowledge on bushido is not imense but rather substantial enough for me to explain something to you. this movie went along with every line of bushido that was in the book the only rule he broke was to disobay his supirior and not talk to him with the proper respect after that the movie was right on the money with bushido so i belive the japanese people will rather enjoy it

it wont be a clasic but it is a rather memrable movie

Or to have his eyes gouged out, and his elbows broken!
To have his kneecaps split, and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin.

And his liver removed and his bowls unplugged,
And his nostrils raked and his bottom burnt off,

I wouldnt take any prior experience in account with any suicide. You're basing this entirely on the fact that he is unable to make his own decision. Anyone who leaves a suicide note has already made up their decision, and wants people to tell them to stop.

They are not looking for any rationalization, they are looking for attention. Shallow and superfluous, yes. Of course it is.

I'm wondering why when someone comes to you, telling you of how they plan to kill themselves, how can you believe, in any way, that they respond well to logic? They are not looking for the answer to any question, they are looking for attention.

Any further healing, I would agree, can be carried on rather well if the person know how to best protect themselves against overcoming emotional drama, using logic and reason.

You're right, strangers can't 'help' strangers. Technically grabbing the man who was to leap a second later, and pull him out of the window wouldn't 'help' him psychologically either.

The only good way to pursue your course of action is when he is off the ledge.

Remember kids, the only reason suicide is illeagal is because the government wants you to pay taxes.
It was something like that.

Exactly like that.

And to Vella's post... talking to them is giving them attention - not the attention they want, though - which is good in a way. You don't want to positively enforce bad behavior.

However, many suicidal people who are just attention-seekers really believe they are suicidal. Rather they are or not doesn't make much of a difference - it's what they believe, since it's their rational mind you're trying to reach.

Suicide, illegal?

That's a bit counter intuitive. They can only ever arrest you for attempted suicide.

Check your facts. All of the money that will be expended upon your death helps the GDP better than paying your taxes would.
