You're not helping.

Perhaps I'm not - however, others I've helped would probably disagree.

I never said it was a malicious lie. I was using the definition of "lie" as "mistruth" - not something false that is knowingly told as true. I am in a sort of Nietzschian frame of mind at the moment, though, and "lie" is probably the word-choice he would choose.

Devil is Double is Deuce and Joker always trumps Deuce.

Going out in a blaze of glory in the middle of a battlefield may seem heroic, but often can be avoided, thus allowing you to fight another day. Suicide is indeed the cowardly way to die. Just because you can't deal with life's troubles, you decide to take your own life? That makes a helluva lot of sense. [/sarcasm]

And what makes you believe Ben would be any different? I am not suggesting he be the same, but I am trying to remind you that he has not (to my knowledge) given his thoughts on what I've said.

If you're idea of helping someone is encouraging them to kill themselves then you have issues.

There is no such thing as heroic death, despite which kind of culture you live in (Come on people, the last official Japanese sepuku was in 1945!) Death is death, either way. I personally don't bother myself with what will happen to me when I die, since I will have the ability to find out when I finally do.

Until then, I live life. Suicide, as good as an option it may seem, Is a very bad decision. We were given life for a reason, why waste it?

I entirely disagree about there being no such thing as a heroic death... people lose their lives saving other people, performing selfless deeds, etc. Would you like to go and tell their families that they're stupid and don't deserve any respect for throwing themselves away? Or saying to some little girl saved from a burning building that she should have died because the firefighter was an idiot to lay down his life for her?

Oh, care to explain this "We were given life for a reason, why waste it?" Tell us this reason? I mean I'm all for living as long as possible, but you're treading unfamiliar ground with the reason bit...

Tristan ;-)

If you think that's the direction I was going then I will politely ask you not to assume. "When you assume you make an ass out of you and..." well... just yourself.

Obbi, the only difference between you and haloring is that you can spell better. You've been unstable, controversial and downright -blam!- in the past, but for god sakes man! Ben needs support, not your 'help' .

Obbi, there are ways to talk to someone suicidal.

I you ever taken any psychology, or read up on the subject, you would remember that being 'honest' isn't necessarily doing anyone any good.

The honest fact is, suicides are forgotten. Life really isn't 'all that'. It can't be given, and it can be taken away. There is no meaning. Suicides are forgotten quickly, as the world moves on.

Your life is worthless, if you choose to give it.

Anyone who has not the courage to stand and fight to the last dying breath is certainly no hero.

Bravery, is not in the eye of the beholder. Bravery is sticking every day out. Pulling the arrows out before you bleed to death. If you can avoid it, don't die.

Sure it is. The problem is many people confuse "honesty" with "pessimism."

Is staying alive bravery or fear? Are people afraid of living or dying?

One last thing before I make a rational point.

What the Hell was so great about the last Samurai !? If I were Japanese, I'd be infuriated! The movie made no sense whatsoever! The hero's (who wasn't Japanese, oddly enough, nor a Samurai) very mission made little (he hates his boss for doing his duty, but feels an affinity with the Samurai he killed for doing his duty.. what the..?) sense, and in the end, Led to an irrational loss of life, that benefited nobody, except the Box Office. Enough already!

OK! now, I agree, If you die to save another persons life, people will be grateful for you, but the truth is, you cannot put a price on life! No life is more (or less) valuable than another. The reckless disregard for human life I see in my generation is very worrying indeed.

Suicide is not the answer, though I am glad that some people have developed their own opinions. (Do what works, my parents always say)

However, as much as both sides argue, there will be no end to this debate. Why? because in the end, it all breaks down to your personal values and beliefs, which 1. Cannot be discussed here, and 2. Will never ever be able to be conclusivly approved/disproved.
