I don't play Halo 2 very often anymore, but after playing last night I realized Halo3 will destroy the integrity of the Gamer Rep System. I'm really not sure how valuable the Gamer rep system is to most and how many people really pay attention to it, but when entering games, I will browse the Gamer Reps to see if there is an A hole in the lobby, at which time I gracefully bow out.
Last night I was in a game where a guy's entire team quit and he stayed in to play us. Through his vocabulary and the pitch of his voice, it was easy to surmise he was a young adolescent. He was a very talented player who actually put up a nice fight, but in the end lost. In the post game lobby he started hurling insults about how we didn't play him straight up, how we used cheese tactics (although he used the PP/BR Combo the entire match) along with some fine Spanish swear words. The reason I bring this up is we did nothing out of the ordinary except triple team him and wear him down, yet it ticked him off enough to say those things in the post game lobby. Obviously, anyone who has played Halo 2 with any sort of consistency has had this happen to them a hundred times. I don't pay any attention to it, but last night it made me think about Gamer Rep. Now, if this was Halo 3, what do you think the odds are that he would leave some negative feedback? Anyone who plays Halo 3 with any sort of regularity will have a Gamer Rep of a 1/2 star due to children and hormonal adolescents leaving bad feedback.
I take pride in knowing people enjoy playing with me. I also like to know who I'm getting into a game with. What is MS going to do about the upcoming Gamer Rep problem that Halo 3 will most certainly cause? What could they do about it, if anything? Gamer Rep is a great tool if used properly, and I am very happy with it's inclusion into the 360 landscape, but it will quickly be ruined if steps aren't taken now.
