just thought i'd mention it....

you can't "fix" time. anything you did in the past would have caused things that have already happened to happen. so imagine it like this. you travel back in time to stop the flood from bbeing created. the timeline is basically forced to make it so the flood are created because they existed in the future when you fight them. and even if you could "fix" the timeline, anything you did intentionally could severely screw up the timeline of the future adn cause a huge paradox. like if you went back in time to destroy the flood, after you destroyed them, you havent destroyed them because you never went back in the first place because it wasnt necessary.

but anyway, i doubt master chief would choose to go back in time. especially since cortana could actually warn him of the potential dangers.

i was thinking though. what would happen if the ark activated and mastter chief was holding the time altering crystal from the books? would the activation cause the crystal to throw chief back in time a few weeks? it doesnt seem likely though for reasons i already have stated.

but this does bbring up guilty spark's quote: "why would you hesitate to do what you have already done?"

and so we have a mystery. i always thought that time travel would be cool to tie into halo 3. it could be necessary to travel through time just to insure your survival on installation 04 or delta halo. then, with your timeline safe, you can then continue on with your mission, it might be cool.
