Subject: Time Limit on Stickys? Please?

Ah the Sticky. A post so fun or interesting that it becomes a fixture at the top of each forum. I think stickys are a great idea...to an extent.
Is it just me, or does seeing the same sticky day, after day after day at the top of each individual forum make things seem kind of stale? Aside from forum rules, I think it would be nice to give each sticky a predetermined lifespan to keep things on the forums fresh. It would be nice to see a weekly update of stickified posts. Heck, you could even have a sticky "Hall of Fame" forum after a while.
Just an idea B.net users....What do you think?

I do believe that the "Septagon Stickies" sticky is a "Sticky Hall of Fame."

There are some stickies that stay up for a while, then get taken down (in some forums), but those are only very special threads. If a topic is truly interesting, won't it stay on the front page because it is interesting? Do we need to make it a sticky?

It's just that the Sticky chat thread with mayo isn't really active anymore in The Flood (amung others) and if a thread isn't active anymore, then why should it be stickified? I think a new sticky change of the guard every week would really help to keep the forums fresh and intersting and not stale and crusty.

It's there to notify the Flood users that we actually have a chatroom.

While I feel that threads that get little or no attention anymore that are currently pinned should be removed, I don't think a weekly change of stickies is a good idea. People would span the forums with threads they felt would be cool in the hopes of getting them pinned. Less and less threads would be created to have discussions, or be fun, but to be seen as important. Not to mention that I keep getting this feeling that threads that are chosen to be stickies each week will be seen as the "cream of the crop," and a great many users will act upon this idea, thinking that they are better because they made a thread that was pinned.

Well why don't they just pin a different picture of Frankie duct taped to a guerilla each week then?

Because those would belong in The Gallery.

I guess renewing stickys is a horrible idea. Just keep everything the same. Forever.

How about we keep some stickies up for a while, and when they become somewhat stale and have outlived their purpose (if they had a purpose in the first place), we take them down, then allowing for more regular discussion to take place. That way, if another thread comes along that is really good, we can sticky it, then keeping things relatively fresh.

Sticky's are there for a purpose...if you honestly had to sticky someting to make the forum look better...then it doesn't need it.

I have no problems with stickies except when there are too many of them. The stickies in the public forums are ok. I enjoy the Say Something Nice . . thread.
