I think we're going to end up having to deal with immature posters no matter what we do. I cant really agree too much with the idea of a post counter encouraging others to post more and more. First up people will find out pretty quickly that this isnt a site which awards a personal title for those who post a lot, so like has been afotrementioned, there is no incentive to post. However, people do get excited. Just look how a new picture causes mulitple topics on the same thing. Besides, unlike a lot of generic forums, I think a site like a Bungie website, while offers fun and some level of immaturity, it also comes across as a place where you have to respect the authority. From what Ive seen, most kids and general trouble makers tend to not be quite as bad in a place such as this. Obviously we're going to get some level of difficulties, but I dont think it deserves say getting rid of the counter, which is but one of many reasons someone might think to spam. I think with a little moderation and an eye on peoples behaviour, the foot wont have to come down quite so often.
Its true, I did see that post someone made about wanting to make it to a thousand posts or whatever before the release of Halo 2, but I saw that before I even saw this thread, and it didnt occur to me that the guy was suddenly going to start posting tons of meaningless posts just to up his count. If he does, well, i stand corrected, but it seemed to me the sort of thing you say as a quick joke.
As for the logos, I have absolutely no problem. They look great, they're perfect in their functionality, and it makes nagivagtion so much easier. of course, that's on a nice big 17" screen. Ive navigated this site on a smaller screen and it was a little clustered, but not tot he point it was irritating. But that's just me, and Im not surprised if noone cares what I think =P
