Truskill would not be a good idea for a first person shooter. Its great for games like Uno, but shouldnt be in a FPS that has a matchmaking system. Think about it, if a player has to leave or go, or gets cheated, then its just going to make it too easy to get a high rank...and the life expectancy of the game on live will drop. Lets face it, Halo 2 may have the best multiplayer, but one other thing that saved it was matchmaking and the ranks system. Ranks were used as bragging rights, despite what people think and say about them having no true reflection upon ones skill.

Can you level down or what happens if you are a 20 and you lose to a 1?

You level down but would pretty much just as quickly level back up! Find more info on this at XBOX.com

In my opinion 'If it ain't broke don't fix it!''

While the current system has some flaws it works well enough on the whole. I just think that 'TruSkill', while it might increase competativity, it could also increase the will to cheat (whatever new cheating methods those sad cheats think up). So in my opinion, when the game first ships, before Bungie get a new Banhammer swinging, it could be a pain.

Still, i don't yet have 360 so I guess i don't truly understand TruSkill like some of you might.

Actually, that might make sense given that there's only a 1 in 8 chance of winning. I mean, if there is only a 1 in 2 chance of winning (team games), then the ratio should be somewhere closer to 90 out of 180. I don't know if that makes sense...

Rumble pit does make a lot of sense for the TruSkill rankings! I really like the TruSkill ranks on X360! It makes you feel like you don't have to walk a hundred miles in the desert and get to that oasis that when you get there is really not satisfying! Does anyone feel the same?

Doesn't quite work like that but in essence it does in the same way! The new TruSkill ranking system for X360, hell the entire way XBOX Live is setup on 360 is all thanks to the way Bungie did things in Halo 2!

You face an opponent who has never known defeat, who laughs in foreign tongues at your efforts to survive. This is Reply suicide.

I hate TruSkill.

Apparantly, it wasn't very well thought-out.

Why?

It just doles out some arbitrary numbers and you have no idea if they're good or bad.

As long as I've been playing PDZ, I've gotten a 4 in every map. I win, I get a 4. I lose, I get a 4.

I win by a HUGE margin (25 kills to 8) and I get a 4. I lose by a HUGE margin (100 kills and I have 13) and I get a 4.

This system needs to be fixed, revamped, or done away with.

Bungie's system is the same.

It doesn't take into account cheaters, quitters, team killers, griefers, or actual skill.

What do I mean? To go up in rank, all you have to do is win.

You don't have to win by a large margin... You don't have to die very few times... Just win. AT all costs. I'd rather someone play on my team who can play well and is skilled instead of someone who just manages to win a lot, for one reason or another.

We need a new system that is much more complex to even give people adequate skill levels.

I think the current system is perfectly fine. They just need to work out a better way to control cheating. Im sure though that the new 360 feedback system will greatly control the cheating though. More people use feedback on the 360 now that it is much easier too...

Yes the feedback on 360 definitely helps! But remember, Bungie has new security tools in place that are banning cheaters and modders, bridgers and standby-ers, within 5 hours of the offense! These are truly becoming the Golden Days to play Halo!
