No... Bungie said the books are canon... but that they're there to complement the game, not the other way around, The thread starter is right.

That was mature..

Actually, Six, I believe Joe Staten said the books are canon.. You can't really argue there.

That's not true either... I've read the books, and i think that while the stories are "paralell" as shishka said they do not "cross paths" with information, More Spartans will not be in the game, nor will there be any "time travel Crystal"

The time travel crystal is based off of Einstein's theory of Relativity for one, so you never know.

Also, the storyes are one in the same ;)

hey retard i even said there the offical story, never doubted that, but what bungie also said is that the books arnt related to the game. so people who keep making assumptions like "well it says there 15 spartans here and there" need to shutup. just because it says that in the book doesnt mean its gonna happen in the game

P.S. i totally agree that the books are the real story but that still doesnt mean that the game will follow it

The games SHOULD be more like the books. Then at least they would have an amazing and more realistic story.

MikeyBoy, you see, the games are different than the books, they might have the same storyline, but they're not exactly the same. But the game should not be like the books. It's the fact that the books are too realistic that makes them not as good as the game.

I don't think that many best selling books have exactly cold-hard facts that are exact true events. Halo adds a little unbelievability. Realisticness will kill it. Sure, in 500 years there might be titanium-A cruiser battle destroyers, but you know, maybe not.

I don't think the books are that good, they're too fact based, a little too realistic.

The halo Books are the official Canon of the Halo Universe. Eric Nyland goes before Bungie when he writes his stories. He shares his Ideas to bungie, and in the end Bungie has the final word of what can and cannot be used. It has been said numerous times on both sides that Bungie and Nyland work closely.

There is a Halo bible which covers everything in the Halo universe. Almost everything Nyland gets his information from is from the Halo bible. So yes, other SPARTANS do exist in the Halo universe. Whether they will or not be used in the game is another argument.

The books are not the game. True. The Halo games, However, does not cover the entire halo universe. The books are a good representation of the Halo universe which the Games do not cover.

Yea, the games influence the books, not the other way around is the simple fact you have to realize, the books are explaining something the games cannot, and I think it's unfair for people who have not read the books to be confused at the storyline.

Sure, there could be a 40 minute cutscene, but, no, there will not be a 40 minute cutscene, it's too much to explain in the last game.

MissionHill. Bungie wont confuse the Gamers by introducing something the that only the books readers understand. I do however think some characters from the books can be introduced without confusing the Halo gamers.

There are things in the books which give us more information to rely on in the Halo universe. Without the books we wouldnt know who MC is. What's so special about him? Who is Cortana? What are SPARTANS? What technology do Humans use? Other Human Ai. What about Forerunners? Alot of this is not in the Halo games. If you are interested in the Halo Story, you must read the books to get a great understanding of it. Becuase the games simply dont cover enough of the Halo universe.

Sure. Bungie will not confuse gamers by going too far into the Halo universe. . That doesnt make the Halo books not related or no true at all though.

They are a different story arc and pertain to pre-Halo happenings at times. The books can be applied to the games, because the books were meant to help explain things that the game does not.

The problem I have with relating the Halo books to the game is that the books are absolutely horrid. Anyone with a standing knowledge of aeronautics and physics has a hard time believing the story.

For example:

The personal shields of elites and spartans are slippery which makes grappling one another in combat difficult? Did Nylund stop to think that this makes it impossible for a Spartan or elite to pick up a firearm?

People who've had their spacesuits breeched "flash freeze"? Doesn't Nylund know that vacuum is the perfect insulator? Real life astronauts have COOLING systems built into their spacesuits so they don't overheat.

Also, the Pillar of Autumn was supposed to be one of the first ships to have artificial gravity systems installed. How the heck is it that all those MAC stations suddenly appear all designed around having artificial gravity which they've only had for a few years? What are they doing building a MAC station a week?

Makes you want to throw the book at the game console in disgust...

Then there's simply the fact Nylund doesn't pay attention to details. In First Strike the Pillar of Autumn is supposed to only have three Pelicans but oddly there are four in Halo 1 if you play through the game and count. Why bother stating something if you can't back it up? I mean, I wouldn't even have given a thought to how many are on the Pillar.

This is just a few little things... there's plenty more.

Oddly, the game is easier to accept and infinitely more enjoyable.

Or maybe there COULD be more Spartans. Think about it. How did Bungie introduce the flood into Halo:CE? They introduced them as a new element. In the same way, it's not as if gamers would have HAD to read the books to grasp the concept of other Spartans. Bungie may implement them as an addition to the game story. Don't rule it out just yet. :)

Who the hell started this whole "Halo: CE" thing? It's stupid. It's not only easier to type "Halo 1" or just plain "Halo." When I read "Halo: CE" I don't think "Halo: Combat Evolved," because out in the world, noone calls it that. They call it "Halo." When I read "Halo: CE" I think "Halo: Custom Edition" for the PC. Can we just go back to calling it what we all call it anyway?

On the topic of more Spartans, I agree. Not only is it possible, it would be kind of cool. Especially since we can all safely assume that the battles in Halo 3 are going to be much tougher and on a grander scale. You don't even nescessarily need to be playing alongside them. They could be working on other parts of the preservation of earth, and you only see them in cutscenes.

Praise Jesus, this boy's a genius!
Thank you for the enlightenment. Now maybe we can finally put this creatively titled "No spartans in halo 3" thread, of which I've seen one (or seventy-five) too many of, to rest.

DIE THREAD! DIE! DIE! DIE!
Thanks again.

The personal shields of elites and spartans are slippery which makes grappling one another in combat difficult? Did Nylund stop to think that this makes it impossible for a Spartan or elite to pick up a firearm?
The Shields have seperate 'depths', they are always very low on feet and hands to increase traction, but the rest of the body has the shields 'pumped up' all the way.
People who've had their spacesuits breeched "flash freeze"? Doesn't Nylund know that vacuum is the perfect insulator? Real life astronauts have COOLING systems built into their spacesuits so they don't overheat. They'd be overheating from their hot suit, not space. Space is a vacuum -- you cannot live in it, no oxygen, and it's freezing cold.
Also, the Pillar of Autumn was supposed to be one of the first ships to have artificial gravity systems installed. How the heck is it that all those MAC stations suddenly appear all designed around having artificial gravity which they've only had for a few years? What are they doing building a MAC station a week? They NEVER said that it as the first ship to have anti-gravity. They did, however, say that the Covenant ships don't have spinning sections, and that was strange.

Maybe you're confusing the PoA's new "Dual Reactors" that theIn Amber Clad has also had installed recently. "Both Reactor Cores have spun offline maam!"--IAC Bridge Staff.
Then there's simply the fact Nylund doesn't pay attention to details. Why bother stating something if you can't back it up? I mean, I wouldn't even have given a thought to how many are on the Pillar. That was the three in the one hangar (like the one where the single Longsword was) not three in all.

Also, the three on the Butte were the ones that were prepped and ready to transport ODST's.
This is just a few little things... there's plenty more.No there's not. Go ahead, name some, and I will correct you -- again. ;)

Both stories make total sense..the UH with 500 ships ready to jump to Earth were one of two things ::

Regret's original force, wittled down to 15 (which was around what was left after UH blew up)

Or it was the reinforcements sent to Earth, after a checkpoint stop with their station. The reinforcements that overrun the MAC Stations that is, and are seen in the Halo 3 trailer..time warping.
