Monthly Mission #1

Objective: This month our mission is to take over The Campers. Not to take them over but to recurit all of there members.

Number of Members: 215

Steps:

We need atlest 4 or more members to complete mission.

Depending on how many members there is we will split up sections.

Each of us recruit like 25 member each.

If this is done right...we would have asked every member of The Campers to join.

The mission start as soon as we have over 4 volinteers. Also I will asign a section to all of you.

For example I will volinteer to get the first 2 pages of members from The Campers. I just asked the first two pages of The Campers to join..now the next person does the 3 page or 3 and 4 page..

I found this in a group I was spammed for. I joined to tell them they shouldn't spam, but they immediately deleted my post.

Can people who do this be banned? I found out that I got spam from two members in this group because I am in OSDT Recon and in The Campers.

I know the subject of spam PMs has been brought up before, but this post is to show how it starts.

Come on, group PMs aren't too bad. If you don't like them then just ignore it and delete it. It's not like they carry viruses...

This just worries me that groups are trying strategery(name that quote) like this.

And if it makes you feel better put them on your ignore list.

That's not really my point. My point is that with this strategery, at least a thousand people got PMs, some with more than one, just from PMing The Campers and OSDT Recon.

Think about it if a lot of groups did this. That would mean a lot of people would get a huge amount of messages.

I do believe spam messages are in fact against the rules.

Group PMs are good if and only if they are original, and aimed at members who would enjoy the group. Spam PMs are annoying. Why anyone would join a group like that is a mystery to me.

I joined the group just to post a message saying to stop the spam, and then I got some PMs from one of the guys who spammed me, and he told me they did their recruiting from OSDT Recon and from The Campers. Shortly after that I was booted out of the group.

The funny part is that the leader's PM was conversational and sounded somewhat original. The PM from the non-leader recruiting me was just a form type thing.

Here it is:
Here is the sheet you use to recruit new members into the group:

I do see your point know. Although, just like someone above said. Just don't join. Spamming people for group invites is annoying. If it's a new group though, then you can see the reason why. For example. When the halo 3 forums first got here and Zanzibar was deleted I went in there to check out their wallpapers and stuff. I posted once and then all of a sudden I got 10 invites. 4 from the same exact group. But yes, know I do see your point.

they usually say, i've seen your an active user in these forums, blah blah blah. lol. i like pm them back saying, yeah? well i've never seen you before, where did you find me at?

Group PM's are a mild irritation at worst. Let these people spend their time spamming pages of members; it takes you 3 seconds to delete the message. =)

Spam PMs are NOT the only way to get members for a group, it is however rude and offending to the members who recive the spam PMs. If you have a good group, there is no need to send PMs, the members will come to the group then. If your group are the suck, then the only way to get member is to trick them using PMs...

Stupid PM spammers... GAH!

I know. I am in many groups with only 30- people, but they are active and spam-free. YOur group should grow itself, by having good members other people want to be around. If your members have good reputations, people will join to see them more often.

Actually, I must disagree with both of you. Spam PMs are not the only way to get members into your group. Nor are PMs. However, I would not agree that the best way to get members is to have a good group. It is a combination of a good group and good advertising (emphasis on good) that gets the job done.

  • 07.19.2006 10:56 AM PDT

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

As was said above, it's really not a problem. If you're particularly annoyed by it, block the guy who sent you the PM or contact the chapter/group founder and ask that they try to ensure no more advertisement PMs are sent to you.

I think another problem is that some chapters give out promotions if they recruit someone into a chapter. Whilst this is a nice way to promote activity and advertise, it's not the best of ways as far as the recipient is concerned.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

If I get one spam pm, i ignore and delete it. If I get more from the same group after that, then I join the group and fill the front page with "stop spamming me" threads.

From what I gather, the measure of a groups worth is evident by its member count. oooh, aren't we cool, we have 1,000 members but only one post that has been updated in the past week.

I agree. I don't find group PMs that big of a problem, but I will get a little annoyed after reading 3 form letter PMs asking me to join a group that I am already in. I probably wouldn't get as annoyed if the messages were a little more original and not a form letter that is part of a mass advertising campaign.

Originality is important, but I don't think it really draws anybody in. Countless times I have told people what makes a good advertisement, and I don't think anyone has listened to me. If my advice were heeded by everyone (wouldn't happen in any case), we'd only receive invites to groups we would be interested in joining.

If this continues and the group doing it gets found out, Achronos could choose tear them to pieces.
