Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

In the orginal post of this topic I am almost positive I know the group using that recruitment technique. I could be wrong but I pmed my question to the thread starter.

I never got your PM.

I love when people say how much I contribute to the community. Other than turning perfectly good threads off topic, I haven't done much.

Originality is important, but I don't think it really draws anybody in. Countless times I have told people what makes a good advertisement, and I don't think anyone has listened to me. If my advice were heeded by everyone (wouldn't happen in any case), we'd only receive invites to groups we would be interested in joining.

Originality probably doesn't draw anybody in, but it can help an advertisement PM. And I wish people would only send group invites to people that they think would be interested in the group, and not everyone. I sometimes wonder why people send me invites to groups about things that I have never shown an interest in.

Agreed, though I can see the dilemma of the members who send PMs. There are groups that discuss things that are not on-topic here in the forum, so if they want to advertise, they will find themselves at a loss at finding out who enjoys what.

As long as the PM is original, I feel okay with at least humoring the sender with a quick look over the group they are advertising for. Before I used to give groups a trial week, but not anymore since I don't have the time.

Underground Pleasure - aren't you a bit curious?

Wow...I don't like how they steal members from other groups.

KOTOR | The WarriorsI'll chain you to the truth for the truth shall set you free
I'll turn the screws of vengeance and bury you with honesty
I'll make all your dreams come to life, then slay them as quickly as they came

I have sent "spam" PMs to people before, but now that I think about it, it was really dumb. When I get them, I check the group out and if I like it I join. If not, I just delete the message. Recently, before I left a very large group, I was asked to join the group by three different people... and I was already in the freaking group. If you're going to spam people with group invites, at least do some damn research!

I only advertise with B.net members I know or respect. That limits the size of my group, but I don't believe in spamming. I also prefer to get pms that I know are sent to me personally and are not cookie cutter group invites.

That's part of what pissed me off about this one. The form invite. The other one was probably copy/paste also, but it was more conversational and original sounding.

The final thing that pissed me off was that they are doing this by group. At least other people see you posting in the main forums and send you a message from there.

I'd say each are equally bad. For all I know the member probably just sends a PM to everyone he sees, not simply the active people.

Maybe something that would be interesting to do would be to reply to the person who sent the PM and ask them about the group. Ask them why they think you will enjoy the group. They'll probably be at a loss for words, or at least a good explanation.
