Yeah, sniper is fine. I think they should bring the original sniper rifle back from Halo. You know, the one that has a night vision, more powerful shots, louder sound, fires faster? Recoil isn't necessary either(amnesty for sniper bait??). Maybe a slight recoil on the Beam Rifle(slight, mind you), and greater for Marines and Jackals. Sniper scopes should only disengage if you're hit without shielding, and move slightly off when you're hit with shielding.

I agree with Sniper 777.

i think there should be several types

--no tracers
--silencer
--or both

to all SR's

--bullets pass through multiple opponents
--1 shot to the head is a kill against anyone even the highest ranked elite
--a realistic range....in H2 it fired about 100 ft....it should reach the accross the whole map...whole point is be at a safe distance from the enemy
--higher zoom x5/x10/x20/x50
--Night Vision

Disagree with me at your own risk

*loads SR*

I hope that they dont put the tracer on the bullets this time round.
Snipers dont have tracers.

some rifles do it depends on the type of rounds you use

Are you sure?

No, it'd actually be very dumb to put a tracer on a sniper rifle.. BUT, the sniper rifle in Halo 2 would be incredibly easy to kill with without a tracer, since all it would be is:

BAM. tink BAM. tink BAM tink (still don't see the tracer.. little bullet holes appearing on the wall next to me.. ) BAM-Face-melted.

If have read the manuals. then you would know that its not a Tracer.
The Sniper Rifle is Gas powered.
Its smoke that follows the bullet, not a tracer.

And it adds some balance to the Sniper Rifles.
That way when you die, your team or yourself have a chance to see what direction the shot came from.
Its actually quite brilliant on Bungie's part.

still..........it depends on type of round u use

Hmm, improvments or changes...

I'd like an option for auto-aim. Having it on or off which could apply to all weapons.

More particle effects would be nice, as for that, the sniper rifle is pretty fine.

What is all this about the auto aim stuff?

and about the non excisting tracers I thought somone cleared that up for us already. They read the manuals and the sniper is gas powered so it leaves a trail of smoke.

I hate the H1 sniper because if you're ~15 feet away, you still have to lead like crazy, but in H2, you don't lead hardly at all, so H3's sniper should have a variance, the further away someone is, the more you have to lead.

yo why the -blam!- are people saying there shouldnt be autoaim. I've played halo 1 on my pc and plugged in my friends wired controller its -blam!-ing hard to kill anyone. There have to be weapons that are powerful cause it helps the team play all around.

There will be a little autoaim regardless of what anyone has to say.
Its better for networking and XBL.
Thats why it seems like Halo:CE had less autoaim. Because it didn't need it for systemlink.

I agree that the night vision should return. But the tuning & balancing should be the same. The autoaim should definately stay, as there's a small degree of it on every weapon (along with the fact that your reticule kinda stays on people when your close up & makes you circle strafe instead of turn). The autoaim makes it so more people can use the weapon effectively, enhancing the fun. And it's no hardship if you get sniped an extra two times in a game.

And to comment on this:
Heavy, heavy Auto Aim

Are you kiddin?
I tested this like, last year, by sniping a warthog gunner looking sideways. The farthest away I got with the reticule on 10x zoom was about 2 pixels. It was ALMOST touching the head. I just saw it as making it easier to use. I kinda disliked how in Halo 1 you had to play the game OFTEN to be good at it. Haalo 2 you can pick up and if you know the controls play somewhat well.

I think seeing as the maps are going to hold 60-30 players. That the scope should go up too 20.

The sniper rifle is too easy to get kills with. It is easily the most dominate weapon in the game. (Yes, more than the sword). Id like to see a heavier recoil per shot (no more easy kills with two shots).

definitely, they have a hand-held SMG with more recoil than a Sniper Rifle? WTF?

howbout the range calculator rom halo 1 and depending on the range u aim minorly higher ((so they dont get as much headshots)) it might just dip down 2 inch so it hits there chest giving u a small second to get out of the way

or as they said put higher recoil so u cant hit the same place twice

A mythic member but I speak my mind to much.

Halo 3
-Able to shoot through multiple targets.
-No raticle when unscoped
-Halo CE's auto aim
-Night Vision
-5X and 10X zoom
-Silenced
-Keep the bullet trail
-Shoot further ( Halo CE )

Something else, the sniper rifle takes up to much of the screen when unscoped. It blocks the whole Botton Left side. They made it appear bigger then Halo CE and is really annoying since people in halo 2 can easily sneak up on the right side. Halo 3 the sniper should take up as much of the screen as Halo CE. Play Halo Ce then Halo 2 you will see what I mean its retarded.

Plus you should not have to lead the raticle so far in front of a target to hit them, this is the future bullets should be traveling super fast, it should not take three seconds for the bullet to hit a person. YOu can see this problem on Coag it gets harder the further the person is from you. Never had this problem in HALO 1.

. . ... . ......... ... . . .. ....

That's due to host issues. The Halo 2 sniper rilfe shoots just as far as the Halo 1 sniper rifle. When I've been host in Halo 2, I've picked off people on top of Blue Base while standing in Red Base plenty of times.

The Halo 1 sniper rifle DID control differently. I think that's due to the way Halo 1 controlled overall; it was like you were using a controller to move a mouse cursor, versus Halo 2 where turning and etc were fixed to control much better with a controller using acceleration and such. Whenever I play Halo 1 I always have to re-train myself with Halo 2's sniper, and vice versa.

What I would like to see is some recoil on that bad boy. Either your reticule gets moved or you have to re-scope between shots.

Yeah the night vision and the cool distance counter would be great for a return. Especially the distance counter. It was the best scope animaton I had ever seen for a game.

The SMG is an automatic weapon, an automatic weapon will definitely be more affected by recoil than the way the sniper rifle is fired. If you've ever fired a real sniping or hunting rifle you know that while the recoil is heavy for large calibers, it's short-lived and easy to hold on target and get back on target. On the other hand, if you've ever fired an automatic weapon like an AK-47 or other fully-automatic assault rifle you would know that the continuous recoil of each shot going out really fast kills accuracy.
