In halo 2, why didn't the covenant just send their entire army to obliterate any chance of human survival. And why not in H3?

If you bothered to pay attention in Halo 2, you find out that the covenant had no idea the humans were even on Earth.

Yeah I wondered the same thing at first why they didn't "glass" the planet as it is called in the books. But as the Halo 3 trailer shows us there is obviously something on Earth they need as there was on Reach so destroying the planet is counter productive for them...

When Regret sent his small fleet to Earth, there was no knowledge of human presence on the planet. This is why it was a very small fleet. This means that the Covenant sent Regret to Earth for other reasons, which will probably be unveiled in Halo 3.

P.S. - In the Halo 3 teaser, the Covenant DO have a massive fleet around Earth. That's why everything is all burnt and why there are a crapload of cruisers everywhere.

If you payed attention to the Books.
They didn't completely Glass reach.
Thats because of the artifact that they were searching for.
And the covenant wouldn't glass earth because they are after the Ark.

We've been here since you left.
We left before you came.

Becuase Bungie is lazy and decided to make it so that Regret "jumped the gun." Instead of the dramatic battle at E3 that ironically never showed up.

I don't mean "why didn't they glass the planet". I mean why didn't they just kill us on land?

First, I did pay attention. Second, that's pretty lousy of regret to not notice our homeworld had us on it.

They had no intel that Earth is our homeworld. They thought Reach was if I remember correctly.

Regret went to Earth looking for the forerunner structure under Mombassa. He didn't know any humans were there or that it was Humanities Homeworld.

  • 07.19.2006 10:02 AM PDT

They thought Reach was our homeworld because it was well defended, right? Wasn't Earth better protected?

Not that much since everyone seems dead in the trailer.

Maybe the big fight was happening elsewhere, or people were going there.

Earth has more MAC guns but not as many people due to overpopulation forced people off of Earth and onto new planets.

I don't know about you, but I had a lot more reinforcements in H2 than in H1.

they had no idea of the location of the human homeworld until halo 2

  • 07.19.2006 10:51 AM PDT

Why didn't they?

  • 07.19.2006 10:51 AM PDT

In addition to what several have said, the Covenant are not so much interested in wiping out humanity as they are in recovering Forerunner tech. It seems that when the Covenant go to Forerunner structures, they also run into humans. Humans seem to be more of a pest than an enemy.

Like it was said, they didn't come to Earth to kill humans, they came to control the ark, it was just that humans were in the way.
