Well my thoughts are these:IF there was only one ark and IF it was on Earth then after the activation of the Halos the only sentient being left alive in the galaxy were humans. On every other planet where there was life only small non sentient creatures would have survived. Most people say the event of the activation took place about 100,000 years ago. That would mean that all other sentient beings we see in the game (covenant) have an evolution tree of only 100,000 years.Since it took small mammals on earth about 65,000,000 years to evolve into their present status, such a fast evolution on the homeworld of, lets say , the Prophets or the Elites seems unlikely.Thats why i believe that the other Covenant races must have also survived the activation of the halos thanks to other ARKS that existed on their homeworlds. So what makes the Earth Ark so special?Well perhaps it was the only one that could activate the Halo installations.Maybe the other Arks served only for protection. Why should the Forrunners care about the creatures that later formed the Covenant? Well perhaps because all(us and the Covenants are created by them).Maybe the Forruners had gone to far into genetics that they were creating sentient life all around the galaxy, where ever the conditions were right.Perhaps the flood them selves were their doing , a final and fatal mistake (sin?). But something about humans must be special. After all we are the only reclaimers.Well what if the Forrunners found on earth the one planet that was similar to their homeplanet and where life was evolving in similar ways.Perhaps through minor genetic interference they created on earth one species by their one image!! HUMANS!! So that is what makes us special. We are not the Forruners but we are their genetic duplicate and their intended succesors. At the end i believe the Forruners decided to die maybe out of guilt for the terror they had brought to the universe. The flood themshelves survived perhaps in a stasis condition inside the halo installations. That shows that the Forruners acted in a harry because i dont see why they would allow any flood to stay alive all these thousands of years. Any thoughts on the above are wellcome

P.S. Allowing the activation of the halos from every ark would have been dangerous and perhaps not neccessary (Maybe the Forrunners were not staying at the Covenant homeworlds during the time of the activation)

You obviously never heard of cloning right?A genetic douplicate doesnt mean ther is more than one of anybody. Its an other person that looks exactly the same outside.

And i still need a clever answer as to how the Covenant evolved in such a small amound of time (100,000years)

first off, grammar dictates your title should read why there may have been more than one ARK

second, right at the end of H2 343GS says the ark, of course

Well i live in Greece and my english is not perfect.Still i would like to hear an argument about the subject instead of my grammar knowledge.Anyway the monitor does mention one ark because, maybe, this one is the only one that activates the halos

More than one Ark? Is that why 343 Guilty Spark said "Why the Ark, of course," ? Hmm?

doesnt anyone wander about the small amound of time between the activation and the present day?100,000 years is very little time for naturall evolution.Unless the covenant existed allready during the activation and they somehow survived, this story could not have happened because the covenant would not exist in their present form!!

well i never mentioned light years. The game say LOCAL years not light years....i know what light years are and it has nothing to do with the subject.

Even if there is only one Ark there must be a way that the Covenants survived the first activation

maybe when the activation of the rings happened, the Covenant were already evolving, yet they werent sentient life just yet, so they werent destroyed and the continued to grow.
and remember, this is Halo. things that dont make much sense can happen.

well... 343 GS says there are seven Halos... so that when all are activated, the [u]galaxy[u] will be devoid of life... what if the covenant are from a different galaxy, meaning that they would have survived the activation and evolved over the natural period of time

that could be but i think i have read somewhere that the prophets evolved on a planet rich with forrunner artifacts...would that be in another galaxy?well i dont know but it seems unlikely

You realize that makes no sense... to evolve, an animal has to be alive to adapt and change to its environment... so there is no way they were passed over by the Halos because they were too small or something...

I really hope that the final story when h3 comes out will make sense because that would make it so much better.A good story ,even a fairy tail ,must have an inner logic and a final explanation.

Yeah... me too, but im saying... maybe they left their home planet and migrated because the resources of that planet were used, just like many people think we might have to do because of the ozone layer and other environmental and population stuff

I just hope this whole thing wont be a chronological mistake made by BUNGIE.....still maybe there are more than one ark...or some other installations that offered protection to the races inside.Maybe the name ark was reserved only for the earth installation
