Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves
I've been thinking about this topic for awhile, and I think I've come up with (hopefully) a few reasons things are the way they are.
Society had changed. The community, as its remembered, was made up of people who grew up in an entirely different decade than the majority of people who come here now. People who never knew the Cold War or have any idea what Oregon Trail is. Most of the older people here who remember these things look outside at the world and think to themselves wtf, for lack of a better term. I won't try to delve into every societal woe that exists, but suffice it to say that the world has changed in way where todays youth, as a whole, have lost alot of the social skills that we were brought up with. There are, of course, exceptions to this, but I find that these examples are few and far between.I think this lends itself to the forums at bungie.net becomming 'less social' than they once were.
Another reason would be Bungie's success. Bungie was big prior to Halo, but Halo made it one the premiere studios. This attracts more people, and as the number of people increase, so does the number of 'community deficient' people. The people who don't care about the Bungie community, history, whatever, they just want Bungie to bring back the H1 pistol.
I may hold a grim view of humanity in general, but I don't think I'm alone when I say that the concept of "We" is on the verge of extinction. It has become a society of me, myself and I.
The way I see it is this. We, being the older member of the community and Bungie.net, can either throw our hands in the air a say screw it, or we can do the best job we know how of passing on what we know, to those who don't. I prefer the latter, but to each his own.
