Here’s my theories on Gravemind, Cortanna, and the Flood related to Halo 3. And please read it even if it has some biblical references. This is good stuff, so read on.
In the Bible, Noah made the ark to protect himself, his family, and two of each existing animal of the earth from the flood. Now, the flood was created by God to kill off all life except that of the ark because of sin. So, obviously, everything on the ark lived because it was built to withstand the flood.
Now, apply this to Halo. Just like God created the flood to destroy something, maybe the Forerunners also created a “flood” to destroy something. But, for the Forerunners, their “flood” got out of hand. So... they created an ark (the Ark) as a safe haven from the Flood. That safe haven I would think would be on Earth or Coral, or Earth or Coral themselves.
Now, look at this...
CORTANA: What... is that?
GRAVEMIND: I? I am a monument to all your sins.
A monument to all your sins? At first this seems weird but after looking into it, I realized that it isn’t at all. A monument is a tribute, so Gravemind is saying that he’s a tribute to sins; their sins [Cortanna and Master Chief? No, the Forerunners (Which could have been human. And if they were, that would explain why Gravemind refers to the Master Chief/ Cortanna.)].
I also believe that when Gravemind says ‘I’, I think he’s referring to the entire Flood, because if the Forerunners did create the Flood to destroy (like God did), then all of the Flood would be considered a monument/ remembrance.
The point of all this is that the flood (whether created by the Forerunners or not), should be both the Covenant’s and our (human’s) main priority. Because as we fight to save humanity from the Covenant, the flood could be getting out of control, and soon become more of a threat to us than the Covenant. The question is: will Cortanna know who Gravemind truly is? And if she figures it out, will she use it to our (humans) advantage? Hopefully, because when you watch past the end credits of Halo 2, you’ll know (obviously) that Cortanna was talking to Gravemind, and what they both said...
Gravemind: Silence fills the empty grave, now that I have gone. But my mind is not at rest, for questions linger on. I will ask, and you will answer.
Cortanna: All right. Shoot.
So, in the e3 trailer of H3, Cortanna was kinda- blurred. Was she trying to communicate with the chief from Gravemind’s place, or was she somewhere else? Feel free to post your opinions, cause id like to know what u think.
