Ok I think I heared somewhere that the crater that Cheif was standing over was about 3 miles in diamiter. But if any of you remember in Halo Combat Evolved when Chief was escaping the Pillar Of Autumn you hade about 5-6 km to travle before you escaped. Which means that the piller of Autumn is about 3 miles long (or more). Also in the begining of the game cortana says that the covenent ships that they are fighting are better than the Auntumn. Now this doesn't mean anything for size but shouldn't that mean that there ships are bigger than the Autumn, think about it...you would need the size to store the extra turrets on the ship, hiperdrive and tons of other junk. Even though the covenent has better tech I still think that to be superior to the autumn in would need to be bigger or at least the same size.

But in the Halo 3 trailer you see the covenent ships flying over the crater. If the Autumn was 3 miles long and the covie ships are bigger or the same size they shoud be the same size as the crater, yet they are dwarfed by it. The only reson I can think why they are is because there different classes of cruiser, yet I don't think the covie would make a different kind of cruiser that loocks the same as their big ones....thoughts?

The Pillar is exactly 1.17 km long.

Maybe they are way above the crater.

We actually dont know how far above the crater the ships are. If they are farther away from the chief than the crater is (which is probably the case) they will look smaller by comparison.

She only said that they were faster.

She said that but if you remember when the Chief gets to the bridge and Keyes Cortana and Chief all start talking. Midway in the conversation cortana brags about how she took out 4 cruisers, there she says there superior.

Then how come I had to drive 5 km to get to the place foehammer was gonna pick me up. The when she died I have to drive something like 3 km to get to the longsword.

The Covenant ships are faster, have better weapons, and shields. The humans only win in 3/1 odds. The Covenant are by far superior to Humans.

If you remember in the last level of Halo CE you drive the hog about 3 1/2 kilometers so it can't be exactly 1.17 km long.

According to the scale comparison between the Chief and POA meshes from Halo: CE, the POA is exactly 1.17 km long. That size matches other size scales in the game, and is the valid length. The distance the chief travels at the end of the game, if longer, is a discrepancy.

Actually, this guy has an excellent point. In the first game, you did have to travel (if I remember correctly) about 3-4 kilometers to escape the Pillar of Autumn, and that means the ship itself is much longer. And Covenant ships are generally much larger than human ships, with a few exceptions in which case theyre only slightly larger ( If I understand correctly, there are no covenant ships that are actually smaller than a human ship).

Therefore, If this structure is actually 3 miles across, than the covenant ships should above it should be about as large, if not larger.

So, as far as I can speculate, this means that the structure HAS TO BE more than 3 miles wide. And by the way, the only discriptions of the structure that weve been told (as far as I know) have been like huge, and imense. I don't think we've (and I doubt we actually have, I mean bungie would not give us specifications yet), been told any numbers yet. So we probably don't know how large this thing is, and it will probably be much larger than 3 miles.

these may not be the capital ships. infact they wouldnt be because i no that the games arent based on the books BUt in the book cortana pilots and covenant capital ship onto a planets surface and she says its not supposed to happen. so these are probaly just smaller ships not the giant capital ships.

The Prophet of Regret's ship, I believe the largest Covenant or Human ship seen yet, is 5000 some odd meters long.

In the PoA when your racing, your not going in a straight line, you make alot of turns, which is why you are able to travel 3 miles when is is actually only 1.7 km in size

It's longer than that...on The Maw, you have to drive over about 2 kilometers...

Thats the only reson that the proportions mach but why would the covent build a smaller ship that looks exacly like their big ones. If your gonna make a ship smaller ship there should be major differences between the small and big. If you just shrunk the ship it would be unstable and wouldn't be able to suport itself under heavy gravity or couldn't enter the atmosphere, you would also need differend desighns for almost everything. Lets say you too a normal engine and just shrunk it down. The smaller size means that everything in the engine must be smaller like the coolant tanks. Which means the engine will generate the same heat but lack the coolent to suport it. the size of the engine would be smaller but you would still need to send the same pulses through it. In order to cool the ship you need a bigger coolant suply so, in order for the ship to work you would add biger coolant tanks which should be visible on the outside...yet they arn't. Thats just one problem but if you shrink the entire ship you would need to change many things which would change the look of the ship. So those can't be smaller covie ships.

those turns don't have big angles, there's only about a 30-50 degree angle on each turn. Turns like that can't turn 5 km to 1.17 km.

The Covenant capital ships CAN enter a planet's atmosphere. They are NOT allowed by Covenant standards to slip-jump from in their gravity wells.

Also, don't use the distance from the MAW run to determine POA length. That was just stretched for gameplay purposes.

Well think about it halo was originaly a game...not a book. The book should be accurate to the game, not vise versa. Also in space there is no gravity or matter to get in the way of your ship. That means you can make a cruser anyway you want and it will glide just fine because there is no risistance. Also because no gravity there is no problems with building it as big as you want, it will still be stable. And if you have good sheilds and an organized landing you should be able to bring a capitle ship on a planet as long as your not flying it around to fast.

A mythic member but I speak my mind to much.

Why does this matter at all.

TO solve your problem I'll give you an answer.

THE POA is 20miles long
Covie Ships are smaller its the cameras angles that makes it look big
The hole was digital, Meaning it wasn't really there don't you watch Dave Chappel. IT DIGITAL.

It's not 20 miles long. Anyway, didn't Bungie say the ships were 3 kilometers, and the hole was bigger? That's what I thought at least.

which translates into about 2 miles. Still doesn't make scense if the ark is 3 miles long. But I might be wrong, I don't think the 3 mile thing is official but its what I keep hearing.

All I can say is: It's a game. Sometimes developers have to adjust the scale of things to make sure it all fits, without crashing the engine.
